Expect for the cow comment, I don't see any issues. Personally when I was in Rome & Florence last summer I saw many gypsy beggar women using children to hustle tourists. But I know that those women do not represent all gypsy/Romani far from it. And I wont judge a whole group of people on a few bad apples.
You're trying to equate gypsy with a word like negro which at one was okay to say in the 40s-70s but is no longer acceptable. But that thing is many Romani groups have no issue with the term and they call themselves that; it doesn't work, they aren't the same. Franky I think you're derailing the thread.

I think having a flavor text event like finding Greenland is a must if you are going to include India (and maybe some humorous events), but besides that I wouldn't have anything else.
What's with all the shouting and yelling about whats racist or not? You know whats really offensive? Being offended for people who didn't ask you to be the anti-racist brigade and defend them, /that's/ offensive. Now going back to the topic, they might get added in flavor events; but not as a mercenary group because the ERE already has a vassal merc band.

In case you missed it, some guy who is the son and nephew of REAL gypsies/Romani/whatever in this thread, said he considers the word Gypsy fine and so does his family. If the people supposedly having rascist words thrown at them don't care why should you?
In Ireland (or at least where I am from) Gypsy is traditionally the word for Irish Gypsies, and Roma are well, Roma. Irish Gypsies are completely different ethnically than Roma, they just happened to develop the same lifestyle completely separate from each other.
They saw it. They just chose to ignore it because it didn't support their position.
Alternatively, the acceptance of the word within Rroma communities varies.

As there were many african-americans who had no problem with the word 'negro'. Again, opinion will always differ within groups.

It's wonderful to see the different ways people react to being criticized.
I hate to butt in, but if you feel this passionate about how racist the word "gypsy" is, do everyone else a favour and take it to PM and stop hijacking the thread to discuss a modern issue that is hardly relevant.

I must've missed your criticism through all the whining. If anyone is this offended by the word "gypsy" I hope that they are sure to spend their time attempting to stop radio stations from playing Fleetwood Mac's song. Eitherwise, they are just blowhard hypocrites with nothing better to do than worry about a computer game.
