really,wikipedia is your source ?

I don't see why Wikipedia is whined about so often. Wikipedia is precisely as reliable as the sources it cites, no more, no less. It is not an inherently reliable or unreliable source.

Killerbee is right anyways. The Gypsies formed a small "warrior caste" of sorts in the Byzantine army for a short while, that's known.

Gypsy is a racial slur, just FYI.

My fathers family including me is gypsy/roma. Their entire large family lived just like the gypsy/roma folk in Europe do.

The word gypsy/roma is not offensive to any of them .

My dad and his brothers seem to wear the word as a badge of pride of whom they are,to call them gypsy stirs an emotion of pride, its definately not an insult. The insult would be telling them the word gypsy is an insult.

That's it though, the sources it presents. It is pretty easy to remove sourced information from Wikipedia, to erroneously include poor-quality information, and to deliberately present only one side of the facts.

I really don't know if there's anything worse than watching someone continue to use a racist term even after it's been pointed out to them how offensive it is. It's one thing to use it without thinking/knowing. But no one can continue to claim ignorance at this point. Please just stop.

Please tell me how it's offensive, oh yeah sure some will find it offensive but i'm sure we could a gypsy/roma/romani (or whatever you want to call them) who finds roma/romani offensive.

For me atleast it signifies people who live a gypsy lifestyle and by that i would classify both travellers (irish travellser, scottish travellers etc.) and romani as gypsies. It's about the nomadic lifestyle rather than just the ethnic group.

Edit: and that was completedly oftopic.

I personally think that if Gypsies/romani are represented in the game it will probably be via events and perhaps provincial modifiers, i seriously doubt any gypsy/romani was landed in this period, therefore a separate culture would not be justified.

Do you also tend to complain about blacks using the term "nigga" to refer to each other?

That is a bit different though. That word is possibly the most offensive word in the English language, it is still considered basically completely forbidden for anybody (who isn't black) to use it.

'Gypsy' on the other hand barely causes any offence, it is a pretty normal word to use.

Indeed 'nigga' ( edit: srry for using the word) is very much offensive and racist while gypsy is still a word widely used in the english language.

That reminds me of the situation when, as a non-native english speaker, I wanted to learn if it's okay to call some group of people "black" (basing on their skin color). It turned out that there is no bloody rule, and that in theory some people might get offended somewhere, it seems that in general people don't mind at all.

I personally think that if Gypsies/romani are represented in the game it will probably be via events and perhaps provincial modifiers, i seriously doubt any gypsy/romani was landed in this period, therefore a separate culture would not be justified.
Just wait for the forum specialists who'll find one province in one year that was technically ruled by people in question :> They might've failed with hellenic paganism, but they certainly didn't say their last word yet!

AndreiTLC if you have access to Jsotr I invite you to find quotes in this that support your argument, I'm not in uni anymore there for can't open it. Getting back on topic I think the best way to have them in game would be a mix. At some point in the 10 century the Byzantine player gets a notification of something like "warriors from the east offer service" Then the byzantine player has them as mercenaries called something like "Romani band" as long as the empire is doing well. If things go badly for the Byzantines and they lose to much land then the player loses the unit which an event that says "romani people flee the empire."
