There's a lot of metal out there which is garbage. Guns Drums and Steel takes after the best Scandinavian metal traditions, the non-extreme variety anyway. It was done tastefully and fits in very smoothly with the game's atmosphere.

Well, garbage is subjective, but metal is definitely a very vast genre. The notion that someone would hear some, dislike it, and never find out that there's other kinds of metal they would have wound up liking is certainly credible.

Case in point, I had a pretty negative opinion of metal until I discovered the more melodic kinds - which is pretty much all I listen to anymore.
Naturally, I like the DLC and I intend to buy it alongside AoW.

I listened to them on Youtube and they pale in comparison to the originals imo.

I mean it's not like I wanted to listen to metal in EU4 to begin with but if I did I think I'd listen to something else than these songs.

I want them to metal remix ALL THE MUSIC! Imagine what Gates of Constantinople would sound like in Heavy Metal :D
Better yet, To Constantinople from EUIII. One of the best songs, only the end section of Battle of Lepanto really compares in EUIV.

The music in this DLC is actually exceptionally well-done. It's incredibly good for what it is. I pity the narrow minds of those who say it's irredeemably bad. Really, can you not understand that there are forms of perception that don't overlap precisely with your conservative and xenophobic own perception?

That said, I didn't buy it, and I don't intend to. This genre doesn't fit into my EU4 experience. But shit, son, calling a very good piece of symphonic hard rock "garbage?" That's just kind of sad.

I can't understand where the new music I'm hearing in the last Arumba let's play (Brandeburg) is coming; it's not this drum metal thing. I want to buy it but I don't know the DLC name!

I have to say that this DLC was simply spectacular. I don't generally buy audio-visual flavour DLCs but so far the various music DLCs have all been more than worth their price.

To the detractors: No one forced you to buy it, and to those that didn't buy it because they didn't want it: What the hell are you complaining about? Jesus. There's no pleasing some people.

I don't see much complaining here, just people giving their opinion.

I turned it off immediately. It would be better if you could actually listen to a sample on Steam, or failing that, at least be "warned" that this is contemporary music. After all the other music DLCs, which are in character so to speak, I cannot help but feel a bit misled.

Well, the description on Steam says:

"Europa Universalis IV: Guns, Drums and Steel
We have recorded new sessions with the Swedish composer Tobias Gustafsson and this Music Pack now adds that music to enhance the Europa Universalis IV soundtrack.

The new tracks of metal music is based on the music from Europa Universalis IV.

The music pack includes following songs:

• 01 Main Theme (Guns, Drums and Steel remix)
• 02 Battle Of Lepano (Guns, Drums and Steel remix)
• 03 King's Court (Guns, Drums and Steel remix)
• 04 The Stage Is Set (Guns, Drums and Steel remix)
• 05 Ride Forth Victoriously (Guns, Drums and Steel remix)"

It does say that this is metal music, but that may be easy to miss.

Also you'd think the electric guitar on the first image would kinda give it away :p

But yeah imo Paradox should put some video/audio on their music DLCs store pages. It's hard to make an informed purchased based on a minimalistic description, a couple of pictures and a bunch of unrelated screenshots.

This. So much this.

I expected some nice marches and battle music and got awful bad metal music. Gladly Taterthomp2 here on the forum was so nice to gift me the real music DLC. Why on earth was Songs of War not in the EU4 DLC list in steam?

Also you'd think the electric guitar on the first image would kinda give it away :p

I never look at the DLC pictures in the list - I just move the new DLC and the accompanying music DLC into the cart and buy it.

After all the other music DLCs, which are in character so to speak, I cannot help but feel a bit misled.

And thats why I will never buy a music DLC from P'dox again without hearing the tracks on YT.
