If you conquered all of Germany by the time the Frankfurt assembly fired, you could become Germany without a leadership war.

If all the German states, including Prussia, are Mon or ConMon in early 1851, Conservative Empire will fire, which will produce a leadership war with Austria.

If all the German states are Democracies, including Prussia, Popular Unification will fire. I don't think there is a leadership war for that.

If the German states are mixed in government styles, I think you'd have to wait till the Franco-Prussian war to turn Prussia into Germany.

So Basically now you should make sure nobody changes to Democracies and you'll be Germany in 1851? Shouldn't be too hard then.

Thats odd. Prussia starts with freedom of trade.

I just loaded my 1.03b vanilla GC as prussia and i have all the factories you must have some modded files in there.

When you have vicky installed it modifies the techs, which are the same as the ones used in the Vanilla GC, so when you play a vanilla GC while VIP installed youll have to wait for the same inventions as in VIP...

The best thing to do - and this is what many of us end up doing - is reinstall fresh, then make a copy of vicky and patch VIP onto the copy. Just copy/paste the entire folder, call it "Victoria VIP" or something. You end up with 2 versions of the game, one for vanilla, one for VIP.

Personally, I have 4 versions ;) One for Europe Ablaze, one for VIP, one vanilla with 1.03b and nothing else for MP, and a version with some mods/fixes but no VIP installed on it, which I usually play.

Okay, I had been playing as prussia and I had a few saved games still around.

I tried to pick up this strategy around 1850 or so.. years after I should have been snapping up the minors.

So I began snapping them up.. and annexing them as I went. Yes, BadBoy goes through the roof.

A second problem starting late was that I had to back down from a German Leadership event with Austria.. I do not know if this was the main event.. because I got another later, closer to the normal time for it.. 1866. But while I was battling a lot of german minors I was in no shape to face Austria.. this cost some prestige.

Also.. in 1866 Austria was aligned with Russia.. but I was lucky to have prepared well to get to Wein in time to prevent a problem with losing stuff to Russia. But I also felt compelled to satellite Poland (I took Karkow right off the bat in this game)... in order to confuse Russia and limit their appetite toward Konigsberg in Eat Prussia.. as it ended, I kept all of East Prussia.

Because of BadBoy, I didn't ask Austria for anything... I just wanted that to end so I could move everyone over to get ready for France.

I took Paris and BAMN.. Germany was mine.

BADBOY was ridiculous.. something over 50 at its peak.

yes.. FIVE - O.. 50.. plus!

Still.. I nearly won the game... came very close. Less than 200 points total between top 3.. Austria - UK - Germany. I think I could have easily won if I launched my last minute attack on Austria sooner and kept building industry.. ended up 14 industry points behind 1st place USA. Austria was too big to try to satellite, so I took the first offer they made.

I ended one privince away from linking the Baltic and North Sea tot he Adriatic.

Can't wait to try Prussia again. (yes I can.. got to try someone else first).

What’s wrong with the Franco-Prussian war? If you become Germany at that point, it should be a cakewalk. Was for me. Even 50 bb is not a problem for Prussia/Germany at that point.

Nice tutorial there Lamprey!

I tried something similar. Hannover was satelited a bit early in my game I guess. In te 1836 and I was surprised that there was'nt any factories. The factories are in the capital I suppose. Now should I build more regular clothes factories? I mean in Hannover. I'll try again and this time I wait a bit longer before satelliting Hannover.

What about social reforms? Should I install any of them? I'm playing VIP 0.3b and AFAIK there's some events for social reforms. Also looks like I'm not going to build railways because in VIP RR's require machineparts. I was thinking expanding iron RGO. Would that be helpful at all? :D

You won't get any factories there even when you do invade them later. Hanover is all one state, and you don't get the factories in it until you own the whole thing. So, to get posession of factories the AI would build there you'd have to annex the entire thing. Of course it could be argued that the AI factories are usually not that good as it has an unhealthy hardon for glass, liquor and cement factories - so it's better to build your own anyway.

Personally, I never do reforms, I simply lower low/middle class taxes after 1860 or 65, that takes care of any militancy problems.

You can trade for Interchangeable Parts tech with the UK after around 1839 or so provided you raise relations, that enables you to build your own MP factory. As for iron RGOs, it might be a good idea depending on your style of play. As long as you're in the top 4 or so prestige-wise you can buy iron on the WM, and as prestige is so easy to get - especially with Prussia - that shouldn't be a problem.

Great strategy! The Bavarian mobilization bug is sick. I thought it was time to make peace when I saw stacks of 50+ divs coming my way.

BTW, has someone tested if this strategy works in VIP?

It would work in VIP, there are no basic differences. Of course, you'd want to trade for Interchangeable Parts tech from the UK to build a machine parts factory for railroading, but otherwise it would actually be easier.

See, in VIP the Bavarian mobilization bug has been fixed, so there's no great necessity to end the war quickly. You could take your time and destroy Bavaria's 5 reserve divisions once they mobilize without breaking a sweat.

Division numbers

Hey everyone.

Thanks Lamprey, the guide was invaluable to me in my second game (as Prussia)!
One question: how do you get the game to display the little number (denoting how many divisions in a stack) in the middle of the sprite icon ?
I'm running vanilla 1.03.

Thanks,

Prince

It's works good in VIP. The other countries have mostly minded their business. I had to take over to over the southern countries after the in 1850 to rid them of Democracy and then in '51 I was turned into Germany and my Industry is like 850 something.
