Playing slow didn't stop Arumba from getting a big following :p

I definitely think there's demand for high-level play with in-depth explanation.
I wouldn't call him slow by atwix' standards, or wouldn't call him anywhere near atwix in term of high-level play, will all respect. Arumba is around my level from what I see when I occasionally watch him, he's able to get most of the achievements in normal/hard, and to do a WC with a medium-big nation. Atwix is on a pretty different planet, several galaxies ahead of us. But maybe we totally digress from the subject of PUs. :p

Atwix, I watched your vid, I don't last long with any players unless I am really tired though because if I have any energy I prefer to play instead. Still, I will sub and check it out. I am more interested in mechanics anyway, and you explaining what you are doing and why is exactly what I have been waiting for. And as for playing slow, hopefully that means you don't f up quite as often as some of the others do. Like, I love Jake's vids, but damn, he is bad at war, mostly because he plays speed 4. He wins his wars, just loses thousands more troops than he should. It drives me nuts. Hopefully you won't make me angry lol

Hi guys!

I'm looking for great tips how to use consorts to claim thrones faster then I do it?

(Marry a country with a weak claim, get that country's consort, get an heir, kill the ruler and then free CB)

I try to marry other countries as a new ruler comes to power. That gives you a 50% chance to get the consort. You can then look at their opinion of you and look for 'consort ties', that indicates you got the consort. Then you need that country to settle on a weak claim heir, and then you need the ruler to die before that weak claim heir is 15 - then you have consort regency of your dynasty and a weak claim heir - since you initiated the PU it will still be in effect allowing you to Claim Throne. Note that it doesn't matter what happens dynastically once you declare the war. You might get a notification that you lost your claim but don't worry, you can still enforce it in the peace.

Note that I'm not suggesting that this is a better use of an RM than simply marrying a country with a old ruler and no heir. It is just another way to possibly get a PU. You need to keep an eye on the target to see if the conditions are on their way to being met - like if they get a weak claim heir with good stats - so you can prepare. Break any alliance you have with them, try to look for how you can strip them of any other allies.

The other thing you might think to look for would be a weak claim heir in a country with no consort - that will be rare as any time a country gets an heir without there being a consort, a consort is generated alongside the heir. Of course consorts can die, so it might happen. You would need to establish whether or not they have a consort by looking for that opinion modifier - see if they like some other country because of consort ties. Even then, they might have a domestic consort so this method is not very likely to yield anything. The main issue here is that it is quite difficult to tell if a country has a consort or not. Hence why I aim to send the offer immediately when a new ruler comes to power since new rulers never come to power with a consort.

Calling Jake bad at war might be a bit exaggerated, he still wins wars being outnumbered 2 to 1 or even 3 to 1 without loaning at all.

think I won't. But you will have to endure me taking 10 hours per war, and 2-3 hours per year at war.

And no, i'm not kidding there.

You will need a LOAD of time to watch me win an 'impossible' war.

Yeah thx!
Maybe the best tip is to marry a new country that has few royal marriages?

I was playing Brandenburg (Hohen.... something) and had a great ally in Saxony and I always got their consort. Then my king died and my heir was 2 years the consort took power (Von Wettin). I immediately broke the alliance with Saxony since they didn't have an heir (their king was 50 something). I was lucky and could claim the throne when my heir was 7 and win the Von Wettin war.

@atwix Yeah! Do a consort guide as well! :)

added the consort strategies in chapter 5 in step A no rm no dynasty section. Gave @Badesumofu credit :)

And I should have mentioned that too. It works in both directions. Basically when the game checks to see what a country's dynasty is, it just checks the name of the current ruler. So if you are in a consort regency, you can claim throne on any nation with the dynasty of your consort. This allows you to PU, for example, Von Habsburgs without actually having that dynasty in a permanent way on your own throne. Or if you are trying for a reverse dynasty swap but you get a new heir with good stats while your ruler is 70 you can just keep them if you have the right consort since that will give you a temporary reverse dynasty swap for the regency. Also useful if you actually want to keep your own dynasty for some reason you can just temporarily borrow another dynasty to PU someone (which does not have to be the person you actually got the consort from, of course).

But yeah - consorts open up *a lot* of new options alongside disinherit and abdicate. These new mechanics were overall a massive buff to Monarchies both in raw power potential and in how interesting they are to play.

Also useful if you actually want to keep your own dynasty for some reason you can just temporarily borrow another dynasty to PU someone (which does not have to be the person you actually got the consort from, of course).

But yeah - consorts open up *a lot* of new options alongside disinherit and abdicate. These new mechanics were overall a massive buff to Monarchies both in raw power potential and in how interesting they are to play.

added also! *grin*

Continuing to play my PU/trade France game and it occurred to me that it would be cool if there was an achivement called 'Seven Kingdoms' for having 6 PUs at one time (so you are the king of 7 kingdoms). Maybe make it so all 7 kingdoms need have 300 development or something so that they truly qualify as kingdoms. Would be cool anyway.

I had a great moment where I set myself up with high dip rep and abdicated in the hopes of inheriting a couple of my PUs to free up slots for client states. I had 4 of them around 30% chance to inherit and I ended up inheriting all 4. Brilliant. That saved me a massive amount of mana, not to mention LA. Commonwealth is close to lined up now, we have mutual consorts so a reasonable chance to hit them one way or the other. Or I might just go ham on everyone in Europe and call it a day.

abdicating to inherit all land for your heir? Brilliant indeed :p

You could check if you will inherit PU subjects and abdicate if you do. I'll add this to guide.

Important tip: if you see in diplomatic window of PU subjects that you will inherit one or even 5 at once, then ABDICATE. You will inherit them all immediatly, if it showed you would.

Yeah, they were all between 32% and 38% so it was probably an all or nothing deal. Abdicate allows you to time it so you have max dip rep (no OE, no sabotage reputation). It was a great feeling because I had fed all 4 of them a significant amount. Well over 1000 development integrated instantly and for free with 0 LA. I actually went from being at full force limit to being about 70 under after I stated all the land. Then the trading in grain bonus kicked in shortly after

Like, I love Jake's vids, but damn, he is bad at war, mostly because he plays speed 4. He wins his wars, just loses thousands more troops than he should. It drives me nuts. Hopefully you won't make me angry lol

Jake gets quite sloppy when he thinks the war is easy and he can get away with it. Sometimes he's wrong and gets into a bad situation as a result (e.g. wrecked by Riga, or that 40-year war against the Ottomans). But when he's playing a small country and taking the war seriously, I'd say he knows what he's doing.

Ye, that's the same level of "bad" almost every streamer is.

You could call Florryworry bad following that logic, seeing how he regularly falls into destasters, gets wiped or similar, but nobody would go there.

They aren't bad, they are streaming and have played Eu4 for too long to micro the hell out of everything, which is why they play on Speed4/5 most of the time leading to some oversights.

If they wanted to play better, they could because they are. There's just no point to it and they've proven they can do it multiple times.

It's not really clear for me. I have currently 15% chances and 22% chances for inheriting Denmark and Sweden. But can this still happen if it's written in the diplo box of my PUs that "The PU will continue"? Is it quite random at the death of the emperor or can you see in the box that you will inherit them if it's gonna happen? Thanks
