40. When in a Succession War, the attacker can now demand Cancel Subject on the Country in question as part of the war goal.

41. All subjects now get reduced AE from your actions, not just vassals & marches. As of 1.18, Pu subjects won't take hideous AE from your conquests.

42. Royal Marriages now have a 50% chance of getting a queen, and a newborn heir is a 100% chance of getting a local noble as a queen.

43. 1.18 Added AI for Abandon Personal Union. AI might get rid of PU they don't want.

44. PU Bugfixes 1.18:

--> Gaining PU on a nation that is defending in an independence war against a former lesser partner will drag the new overlord into the war instead of ending it, as of 1.18.
--> Can no longer declare restoration of union war on subjects.
--> The HRE emperor will no longer get automatically called into succession wars inside HRE.
--> No longer possible to contest a country for succession if the countries are already at war.
--> Interregnum death will no longer trigger succession wars.

Especially 41. is VERY important. PU subjects no longer get hideous AE from your conquests, forcing you to let them cool down to avoid them going negative opinion due to accumulated AE.

I bugreported it with @ForzaA a long time ago, and it seems they now DID consider it as a bug in 1.18.

This makes PU subjects even MORE better then vassal subjects.

I don't think the new ruler consort mechanic will add stuff to consider for this guide, but some of the events might. Feel free to report stuff I forgot in 1.18, that is relevant for this guide.

I wonder if AE obtained on force PU is influenced by being greater power, or by patch 1.18 ae changes, or not at all.

If anyone has feedback feel free to post.

Well AE on force PU is in 1.16

yeah, but I wonder if it scales if you are greater power or not, after 1.18. Don't think forcing a greater power into union would generate more AE..

I *think* the AE is based on PU nation development, but I never checked it.

Does the consort's dynasty have any advantage when it comes to dynasty spread?

Oh yeah... as Austria I have maintained a RM with Bohemia for a century with no success (since the start of the game, an initial Habsburg heir disappeared probably because of dishineritance). Recently I haf my hopes up as their old king had no heir. Then they got one from their dynasty, but with a weak claim. Okay, nothing to do here, I'm loosing patience and prepare some good ole' fashionned claims.

Some time later I noticed in a tooltip that my dynasty rule in Bohemia. I check and see that a Habsburg queen rules during the regency... of the weak heir. I check and YES! This allowse indeed to claim their throne. My austro-hungarian empire is in the process of a claim war with Bohemia as we speak :)

A question of my own now: recently the Habsburg queen of Castille had no heir but the tooltip said that on her death a Habsburg noble would rise on the throne - while I was expecting a personal union to happen (I could have claimed but didn't want war with them). I had a personal union with Hungary at the time. Could someone explain this? Was it because Castille is too big? Or the female ruler? Note that it was a genuine queen, not a consort filling the void during a regency.

IDK if this has been talked about yet, but I have the same dynasty as Castile and I have claimed their throne. Yet when the castilian King dies it just puts another king of our dynasty on their throne instead of forcing a PU or a SW.

heh.. I must rewrite the guide then for that part. Thanks for this feedback!

if the nation wasn't at war, then castille likely was in the wrong tier/era for a union to happen. Basically, the castillian ruler died heirless at the WRONG time.

There is interesting solution for this as HRE emperor... You can ABDICATE and shift these tiers. After the shift, you might see Austria getting a union for free, if you are lucky. But usually abdicating for THIS reason of tiers alone is bad idea.More info on these tiers in the new part of the guide. What you can do in a situation like this, is setting powerful rival. It can be your rival or a rival of castille. If france rivalled england, then they might trigger succession war instead of allowing the noble to take throne.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but you can do a claim throne war on someone leading union themselves. If you manage to get the same dynasty. I just checked this with console commands. Getting the same dynasty is hard, you'dd have to get theirs, or it has to be via event. The reason i tried this i because of this reddit post. Aragon has gotten a Trastamara on the english throne and got a PU. He then hoped to get all of them in a union as austria which can in fact happen.

Aragon get Trastamara and PU over england.
Castille gets Iberian Wedding, now leads PU over Aragon, Naples and England
Austria gets Spain a habsburg throne, getting these unions under habsburg rule
If Castille then proceeds to get no or a weak heir you can actually claim throne and force PU all of them.

So i'dd wonder if you could update the guide to mention that while it is not possible to get a PU over someone leading partners themselves, get a succession war or get your dynasty on their throne. It is possbile to get their dynasty on your throne, or have an event change their dynasty. You can then do a claim throne war, even on someone leading PU themselves

pretty sure that is all in there, but it might be in different chapters/places.

I'll check.

3. If you fight a force union war, and the heirless country with your dynasty member also has minor PU countries... You will *also* get these nations as minor PU slave IF you force their overlord in a PU. As screenshot in the teaser chapter shows, i got poland, muscovy and a huge palatinate in one war, just because I force Pu'd the overlord.. For 980 prestige.

there it is, its in the sidenotes :)

Okay never looked over there, you might want to add it to the first post, where it says:

---->6. General Rules:

a) Players and Lucky Nations cannot be inherited. Instead, if there are no valid Contestants, then PU (otherwise SW) will happen.
b) Junior leading a PU herself cannot be PUd or get a succession war over her throne. A noble will rise either from the same dynasty (if there is one) or from RM partners; whichever is strongest. I.e. Aragon cannot be PUd while she has Naples under her. (yes, Castile can with the Iberian wedding event, but not otherwise)

Because although it doens't say you cant do a force PU war, that was what is suspected based on this. And the guide is quite large so finding something this specific is a bit hard

Okay never looked over there, you might want to add it to the first post, where it says:

Because although it doens't say you cant do a force PU war, that was what is suspected based on this. And the guide is quite large so finding something this specific is a bit hard
ok, done!

I do agree finding something specific can be hard.

But one can always in this thread if you got specific questions :)

Hi atwix! I decided to take another shot at understanding the subject. Long story short: I don't get it, so I decided to leave some suggestions regarding the guide that you could maybe address at some point.

1. Info relating to 1.18 was added, but it doesn't look like the rest was updated.
2. There's a lot of spelling and grammatical mistakes that make it even more difficult to understand.
3. It's not written in the most straight forward way, many sections could use rephrasing.
4. Use of abbreviations and the like could be standardised.
5. Unnecessary info could be stripped or separated from the game changing stuff.
6. Maybe more graphs would be a good idea?

I realise it's a long-arse guide, your effort is much appreciated.

some parts of guide were written by others, and copy pasted in.

I should do a rework yes :)

I'll do it when I have time for it!
