When I go to Vic/Scenario

I get the following, I need to put it in the 1836 folder, correct, but it seems to be, well, un-editable.

The 1836 scenario file is not associated with any editor yet on your computer.

Double-click. You'll get a dialog that asks you what to use to open the file. Reply that you wish to choose from a list, then select Wordpad (or any other text editor that you might want to use instead).
 
Every time I pick my nation I get a massive amount of errors even though I followed each step word-for-word. Thanks for nothing.

This guide was written quite a while ago, and things may have changed in the game since then that make (parts of) this guide outdated.

Now, if you want help in sorting out the errors, feel free to post them and perhaps someone can help you out. This might even help others that may or may not be experiencing the same as you.

On the other hand, if you just want to be cranky and belittle the effort Pimparel and others have put into helping the community, you're doing fine.
 
Although the second option seems like the one I would pick on a regular basis, the first one seems much more viable for my current situation.

Er...I received an assload of errors. You'd like all of them? In fact, it doesn't even give me error messages anymore. I can't even access the scenario, it just crashes and I need to Control-Alt-Delete out.
 
Well, the more errors you post, the more people have to work with to help you sort things out. If you don't think the errors will be much help (or there aren't any errors to provide), you can also sketch out the changes you've made; perhaps you have missed something that others can pinpoint for you.

where exactly do you have the freeze at - before or after you choose the scenario to play?
 
After, during the load screen. I've edited the "USA" 1836 file and it gives me one error box at the very beginning load part, something about Minneapolis not having an owner in a state or what-not. After I choose ignore, though, it freezes after a bit of progression, around 3/4 way.

Sounds like you have Minneapolis assinged to both your new nation and the USA. In the USA file, check the section under controlled provinces, some will be listed in groups as colonies, IIRC Minnesota starts as a US colony, so you'll need to delete that reference in the USA file if you want it to be in the new nation file.

Try putting a final } at the end of your new nation .inc file. It looks to me as if you have missed the final one needed to close the starting { at the top of the file where it says country = {

Alright, it seems to load now, but everything is screwed up. When I click on a unit, the game crashes, and a lot of the icons are distorted or different colors.

Oh dear, have you modded any other files other than the new inc files?
 
:rofl: The only original file I edited was the usa.inc one for the GC scenario. I added all the U00.csv stuff and added their flag/shield, as well as the normal stuff. I didn't do anything abnormally, really.

Also, when selecting my country at the 1836 GC screen, I see completely white/neutral provinces on the "preview of the country" box. For example, clicking a country will give you an example of what it looks like or where it is located. When I click on my custom nation, it gives me completely blank provinces.

And on the screen at country choice time that is normal, since the screen is based off of a saved file of nations at the start of the regular scenario. To get yours to show up, you would need to start game as new country, save after day 1, copy a section of the savegame file to the .eug file, and then the country will show up on the "preview" screen wheen choosing a nation. The preview map is not based on the data in the inc files that load each time.
 
I see. Ergh, I have no idea what's wrong, now.

EDIT: I switched to political map-mode and double clicked on the Sioux Falls province and the game crashed. I didn't see any color distortion this time, however. I also notice it said "Ruling Party: None" underneath the small political box at the main country screen.
