"from the glory days of Athens to the establishment of the Roman Empire four centuries later"
"Set in the tumultuous centuries from Alexander’s Successor Empires in the East to the foundation of the Roman Empire"

So, what do you think the game's time span is?

I'd tentatively go for 323 BC to 14 AD.

Edit: Since confirmed the starting year is 450 AVC, which is 304 BC.

So the game would simply end as soon as the eponymous empire is established? I doubt it.

Way earlier. "Glory days of Athens", "Four Centuries". This game will start before Alexander. I would say either 431 BC, 480 BC or 490 BC. (But I hope for even earlier start date: 627 BC).

Most of the empire had been conquered by then, and you need an ending point. When the text says "to the foundation of the Roman Empire", the death of the first Emperor seems a rational guess.
But why would you name a game Rome when the game ends as soon as Rome is a thing? That makes no sense.

Good question, hadn't seen that. The pictures show the year 303 BC or something like that. Sounds like a good starting moment for me but who knows.

As an end date I'd vote for somewhere around 150 AD when the empire is on it's height. Further DLC could stretch that to include the crisis of the third century and perhaps later even the migration era.

Rome had been a thing for several centuries by 14 AD. It just depends on what you want the focus to be.

Most games about Rome focus on the republican period, as the rise of Rome is frequently more fun in a game that being plodded onto a map where Rome already owns most of it.

When did the Roman Republic stop counting as Rome?

It wasn't significant enough to warrant having the game titled after them until the moment they took over a decent chunk of the map. This game could have been called Mauryan Empire as well.

Killing off Rome before it conquers Italy is mentioned in the sticky, as well as screenshots showing Rome as an OPM. This game is about the RISE of Rome, not set when it had already ascended, that much is clear atleast.
