Good analysis, stuwater. This is indeed Trier. Trier is the oldest, still-existing city in Germany. It was founded by the Celts and later conquered by the Romans.

Your turn :)

Thanks, I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to historical architecture and churches, so I like these kind of challenges. :)
Guess I have to look for a new skyline for you.
EDIT: I found something interesting.

No guesses :O.
It looks like a small town near a lake in a tropical or warm climate. But there are not any hints in the image that I see which would help solving this skyline which is why I haven't tried guessing.
The town looks small and frankly there are many, many small towns near lakes ;)

Exactly the reason i chose it, nothing to give it away too quickly, unlike my first ones, which were, lets just say, easy to search for and find.

I don't know if the point of the game is to choose cities which don't give away anything even after looking at it for a long time ;)
Maybe someone else wants to try to guess this one

True, its not the pic I would have used if I did Noosa... Indeed, Noosa was on my Hot List of places I was planning to post... gonna have to remove it.
I am going to go down the sunshine coast and say, Maroochydore. To me, that blue haze and gum trees and those well eroded hills point to somewhere in Australia

This is too difficult to start guessing. To me this game is about finding out which city it is without having to guess randomly, but by taking small clues from the pictures like flag, specific buildings, surrounding nature, company logo's, etc. This means that a skyline might be guessed quickly, but when not even one player can guess it (almost) correct within two try's the skyline is too difficult. This is a rule I use for myself.

Personally I loose interest in this game since there seems to be trend of finding as difficult as possible and to be honest, if that's the purpose I can find a skyline within minutes that won't be guessed correctly for the next few months. To me the challenge in this game is finding a skyline that's both difficult to guess, but still has so many clues that within a few hours there have been a dozen guesses.

In parts, I agree with Myquandro. The point of this game is not to find a tiny town that the majority of the forum users has never heard of. The point of the game is to find a skyline that others might recognise and enjoy guessing. If there are no clues in the image whatsoever then people will lose interest in the game. I don't think the skyline needs to be guessed correctly within two guesses, but the skyline needs to be solvable that means there need to be clues in the picture which help solving it.

A skyline that we use can also be a small town if it is well known (for example in the past I used Saint-Tropez in France which is small but got guessed correctly in a short amount of time because of its popularity). Anyways, those are jus my 2 cents on the matter :)

As Myquandro says, the challenge is to find a skyline which is both difficult to guess but still has enough clues that people will be able to solve it within a short time frame. Otherwise, what is the point of playing this game if we get stuck guessing unknown, unimportant small towns?

I suggest a few more rules to the already existing ones. These are open for debate.

  1. The skyline needs to be either:
    • A generally, well-known city
    • A town of historic importance
    • A popular tourist destination
  2. The image of the skyline shall have a high-enough resolution.
  3. The image shall have one or more clues that help solving the skyline (for example notable architecture, monuments, riverside, city walls, etc)
