I thought there had to be certain levels of world tension before countries could guarantee independence? I am playing as Italy, and want to take Yugoslavia, so as soon as Ethiopia and Spain are over I do the Focus that lets me do that. So I go to Justify war, and the Czechs have already guaranteed their independence! It's January of 37 and tension is 10%, never been over 10% the whole game.

Not that I'm scared of the Czechs, but wouldn't that screw up the Germans in their focuses to get Sudetenland and later Bohemia/Moravia? I want a strong Germany because I want to help them take down the Soviets.

Help!

The Czechs start guaranteeing their independence IIRC.

The AI will not guarantee countries until 25%- besides starting ones and National Focuses.

It won't screw up Germany- just win the war then leave the Czechs intact so then they will still be a viable target for Germany.

That's weird, was that a historical thing? I don't get the connection. Besides, they don't even share a border, the only countries it would really apply to at the start of the game would be Austria and Hungary, right?

But yeah, as long as it doesn't prevent the German stuff from firing, I'll just wing it and see how it goes. Thanks! :)

There was a defensive alliance known as the 'Little Entente' which included Romania, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia in alliance with France in order to keep the new Balkan countries created after WWI safe and secure--notably from becoming Austrian and/or Hungarian again. By 1936 it was in the process of breaking down, but not completely just yet and this guarantee must be a representation of the remnants of that dying alliance.

Got it, thanks. Now that you say that, it does ring a bell, but I had forgotten.
