I doubt they were that naive.
And yet, reality proves you wrong:
What did you think the reaction would be?
I thought there would be 3 reactions.
a) "funny, but not something I want."
b) "funny, i want it"
c) "not my cup of tea, I don't care"
We never thought people would get angry...
Well, as would most rational people in their place.
How so? What's rational about being naive? Or do you mean "rational people, who never witnessed any social interacions on the internet, and therefore still believe that most people do not succumb to "online disinhibition effect""?
Holy orders... okay, that is... three titles. Wow, that is HUGE DLC and is as big as sword of islam!!!
please use logic
I do. Playable Holy Orders wouldn't be the only feature, of course, just like Byzantine features were not the only element of Legacy of Rome. Please use logic. There would also be Crusades-themed events and decisions, and perhaps also something for the Northern Crusades. And possibly something completely new like the retinue system was for LoR.
I'm sure they follow their own forums.
That's a beautiful and romantic worldview, but has no attachment to reality, sorry.
Face it, it's playable pagans. All the hints dropped in the interview point clearly in that direction. And it's also the most logical thing to add. It's strange enough that they've waited to the fourth DLC for it. It wouldn't make any sense if it weren't the pagans this time either.
Playable Pagans and playable Holy Orders are not mutually exclusive, you know.
Also, it's supposed to be something that warrants a DLC as big as, or larger than, SOI.
Actually SoI isn't as big as it may seem. It makes a lot of nations playable, true, but it only adds multiple wives and decadence as any big features. Muslim events and decisions isn't something big - see Sunset Invasion for reference.
So two new mechanics + some events and decisions (for example for all crusading nations and crusade targets, not just Holy Orders) = big as SoI.

Then how come so many people think it's republics? Perhaps because the hints aren't as clear as they may seem. And perhaps "logilcal things to add" argument collapsed on Sunset Invasion, not to mention the fact that Byzantium got a DLC before this "most logical thing to add".

Four, my logical friend. Not to mention that they could very well add some more. Livonian Order for one thing, and some people on the forums mentioned some Spanish orders from Reconquista. But I thank you for your logical remark. I'll logically remember it the next time I see retinues, which as a part of Byzantine DLC are only available to Byzantines, logically. Yep, Holy Orders DLC can never include anything beside making three holy orders playable. It's logic.
