I personally want to see little dudes in battle suits running around firing lasers at each other even less than I want to see circles turning red.

A planetary invasion is a massive undertaking involving hundreds of thousands or millions of individuals on both sides. It is not, and cannot be represented by, 10 guys running into a city firing lasers.

I'm all for graphical improvements, but pass on the GI Joe scenes. I don't have a better alternative to suggest, Perhaps animated battle diagrams depicting an entire hemisphere of the planet? They wouldn't have to be specific to the battle, you could just bullshit them with randomly generated deployments every time. The important part would be seeing the relative sizes of armies, seeing them in motion, and seeing them collapse or break through.

See my reply in the other thread. And did we really need *another* thread???

In short, there's no such thing as a non-impacting feature.

Obviously ground combat is important to people, to a lot of people. So yeah when people want to discuss something without necroing a post 5-6 pages buried they are allowed to create a post.

Notice how people aren't asking for huge bouts of micro though. We just want parity with space battles, give us an army designer and something somewhat enjoyable to watch and we'll be satisfied. I'm sure quite a few people would agree but if wiz does remove ground combat or simplifies it even further I would lose a great deal of interest in stellaris and future expansions.

One of the best things about ground combat in Master of Orion is this:

Ah the sweet taste of victory while reaping the spoils of war!

I wish they would do that in Stellaris. It could be a general or a random Pop dressed in the general outfit that reports that upon capturing a planet from another empire, your empire's troops have discovered technology being researched by your enemy. The new technologies are now researched and you have access to them. Adds a sense of realism and a sense of satisfaction that losing five battleships and several armies was worth it. :)

Make it like this

But seriously, the main problem now is that bombardment is a factor first. Either need to remove it and make invading more worthwhile and reliant on your troop types, or you need to remove troops and just have the bombardment as a 'ticking clock', where its occupied when it reaches zero.

That's it. All the suggestions I've seen on this make it look like you'll need a spreadsheet to know how to invade a planet. This is all you need to do.
