Greek Western Roman Empire?

Hey guys, is it possible to restore the Western Roman Empire as a Greek culture character? I'm currently playing a game with the Melissenos family and intend to expand to Sicily and eventually Italy. The idea of declaring independence and crowning myself Western Emperor came from the dubious tale that Belisarius, Byzantine conqueror of Italy, was offered the Western imperial crown in the mid-6th century, which he refused. Is there any event or decision that could allow a particularly ambitious Greco-Italian Byzantine vassal to crown himself Emperor of the West? If not, what do you guys think of it as an idea and suggestion for future development? It is ahistorical, yes, but only because the Catepans of Italy never had the slightest chance to do something like that.

Also, if I were to grant myself the main Roman Empire title through a console command, what would happen to the Byzantine Empire? Can the both of them coexist without crashing?

You can use the "Restore Roman Empire" decision, which technically merges the Western and Eastern Parts of the Roman Empire, there is no de-jure or titular "Western Roman Empire" title, as far as i'm aware of.

Yes, but I'm a vassal to the Byzantine Emperor and not interested in taking the Eastern throne myself.

In that case, you'd have to create such a title either through the "Create Empire Title" decision (manually renaming said Empire to whatever you want) or fiddle around with the titles files and add it there, in any case, you'd have to be independent to become Emperor yourself.

You can create a Custom Western Empire. There is even an example of one of our users doing exactly that in our Post your Empires thread.

My main issue with that is that I'd most likely lose Roman and Byzantine-specific events, like triumphs after victorious wars. Also, whereas the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Sicily is pretty enough, it doesn't feel very Roman.

You could base your custom Empire on other CoA's. You just need to juggle your primary title around until you find the CoA of your choice.

But yeah, you're gonna lose the specific flavour and events tied to the Restored Roman Empire, that much is true.

If you convert to Catholicism, you might be able to do an invasion on the HRE. If you occupy all the provinces, you can fill the entire thing with Greeks, and it'll adopt your succession law. Then you can rename it to whatever the Greek equivalent of "Western Roman Empire" is.

It'd be like a reverse Latin Empire!
