Are there any nations that can do this?

Seems all the Greek OPMs have Italian monarchies, all can shift cultures, and can westernize, but I haven't seen the formation decision for any of them.

because there is no Greek unification decision (except Restore the Byzantine Empire)

Ahh that sucks. I was hoping to take my Greek republic and squash the Byz with it. They need to add this! Yugoslavia (while not being historical to the game time frame) would be another nice add.

I mean, come on, you can make the Mughals but not Greece? I never even heard about that empire until this game and I'm a history major ;)

Greece is outside the time frame of the game, the Mughal Empire was a major power on the Indian subcontinent for nearly 200 years between 1526 and 1707, right in the middle of the EU game time frame. That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing Greece be able to be formed by decision, since despite being outside the time frame of the game it wouldn't be that unrealistic to see it formed.

Yugoslavia, on the other hand, would be a poor country to see in EU. It's even more outside the time frame of the game since it came into being in the 20th century, and it has no historical precedent such as Greece would at least have. Being able to form Germany and Italy is already a stretch, being able to form Yugoslavia would just be too much in my opinion.

If you really want to see Yugoslavia in the game you could always mod it of course.

As an aside, I am a great fan of Indian history (although my concentration as a History major is Europe) and I find it sad that you hadn't heard of the Mughals before this game. This fact deeply hurts me:p

Maybe you should ask for your money back then from whatever lackluster institution you attended ;)

There is a Greece revolter though, I've seen it pop up from Kaffa all the way down to Crete

It can spawn down into the the actual historically Greek area? Never knew that. Every time 'Greece' ends up popping up in the game it's either in or nearby the Crimea.

Puzzler.

I had never heard of them either, but they were a pretty big deal. (Spent some time educating myself since). My history education focused primarily on Europe. Anyway, Greece IS in the game. It just can't be formed by anyone. It frequently appears in Kaffa (due to it having Greek culture but having no Greek cores). It's relatively easy to create a decision for this. Just copy a decision for another country (like the Byzantines or England or something) and swap out the country tags. Make it require a Greek-culture nation which owns Athens and a couple other major Greek provinces. As for the Greek-Italian countries, it's because those are Crusader states, not real Greek "countries".

Here's a quick mock-up of a Greek Nation decision, based on the Byzantine restoration:
country_decisions = {

greek_nation = {
potential = {
NOT = { exists = GRE }
NOT = { tag = HRE }
NOT = { tag = BYZ }
primary_culture = greek
religion = orthodox
}
allow =
{
owns = 147 # Salonica
owns = 146 # Athens
owns = 145 # Morea
owns = 1773 # Achea
war = no
}
effect = {
GRE = {
add_core = 147 # Salonica
add_core = 148 # Macedonia
add_core = 146 # Athens
add_core = 145 # Morea
add_core = 1773 # Achea
add_core = 163 # Crete
add_core = 164 # Naxos
add_core = 320 # Rhodes
add_core = 142 # Corfu
add_core = 144 # Janina
}
random_owned = {
limit = { culture = greek }
base_tax = 1
}
random_owned = {
limit = { culture = greek }
base_tax = 1
}
centralization_decentralization = -2
prestige = 0.1
change_tag = GRE
GRE = {
capital = 146 # Athens
}
}
ai_will_do = {
factor = 1
}
}

}

Bear in mind the format is completely messed up here.

Yes, In case you are reading this from Europe, they don't bother to teach us American students much outside of the Romans up to our own history. East of Suez, hell, even Eastern Europe, is widely disregarded in our history texts.

Don't even get me started on China.

I'm not sure I ever heard the word Suez in high school. :rofl:

And you don't need to find Salonica on the map. Just know its number and put it in the decision. Or not. You could leave ownership of it out of the requirements.

Hehe, I was just saying there is no Salonica on the HTTT map, that must be a code from WWM or MM.

No, it's not. I don't play any map-altering mods. That's the vanilla Byzantine decision, with some of the requirements stripped out and Greece plugged in in Byzantium's place. If memory serves, Salonica is right next to Janina, north of Athens.

Quite possibly. Or is Salonica the capital instead of the province name? The files sometimes list the city instead of the province for some reason.

Well, that decision I posted would work, if it's formatted properly. Easy to fix by creating a new version of an existing decision. It won't have a proper in-game name or flavor text, but it will work mechanically. (You can add that stuff by messing with the localization files.) And you can mess with it to change the requirements and effects to whatever you see fit.

Well not to harp on it, but the US has a giant discrepancy when it comes to suburban vs. urban public schools.

Not knocking public schools because they're public, I'm knocking the current 'no rich kids left behind' system ;)

If you go to an inner city high school here, you'd probably have gotten a better education surfing Wikipedia due to the distracting influences.
