Today is October 28th, the commemoration day of the Greek "No" to the Italians and the beginning of the Greco-Italian war and the first Allied victories in Europe, much to Mussolini's shame.

And here's a reminder that Greece still doesn't have a unique focus tree in a World War 2 game, while Mexico does, and even Portugal is getting one.

Video very much related.

Greece will probably be included in an East Mediterranean rework featuring Italy, Bulgaria and possibly Turkey, as it seems we're not getting an Italy rework right now. And it's fair to assume that a Greek focus tree should come hand in hand with an Italian rework!

Yeah Portugal and Mexico getting focus tree before Greece, Bulgary, Norway or Finland is quite strange. I expected a mediterranean DLC with France and Italy as Majors and Spain Greece and Bulgary as minors.

My guess would be that Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Italy will get possibly get focus tress after the USSR. That would mean it would possibly get a focus tree in 2022, after the Soviets in 2021.

What makes you say this is a "Mediterranean" DLC?

It's much more arguably an Atlantic one, given that all the countries involved border the Atlantic. The same cannot be said about them bordering the Mediterranean, since Portugal does not.

There are more pressing countries than Bulgaria too, but I'd like to see it and fully expect it to be included in the DLC that includes Italy. I guess the real question is whether Turkey will be coming now or later, since some have said it makes more sense to include that in a dedicated Middle Eastern expansion. That's probably quite a ways off. It doesn't really make any sense for them to keep putting off the Soviet Union since that was one of the two superpowers of the 20th century.

Was there an announcement saying they are going to release only a new DLC per year now? Granted, the previous DLCs haven't been released in a fixed cycle, but I expect to have possibly 2 DLCs next year (which could fit Italy and Russia and then all Majors would have had their trees reworked).

Doubtful. Poland is confirmed to get a rework at some point, and with Poland bordering the USSR, I'd think Poland would likely get one with the USSR, which leaves only Italy as their own Mediterranean DLC, which I'm assuming that Italy will be one of the main focuses.

Poland is not one of the majors and whenever they rework a major they rework other countries as well. La Resistance it's going to be France, Vichy France, both sides of the Spanish Civil War and Portugal (the country, not the man).
I could see Soviet Union, Finland and Poland getting reworked Foci Trees on a future DLC (with Sweden piggybacking on it) and another one with Italy and Greece (and possibly Turkey?)

No, but Podcat said that they wanted to look at the Soviets soon, as there is a large demand for a Soviet overhaul. Since the HOI4 team seems to be putting more time into their DLC, especially after the positive-ish reception of MtG, I would expect no more than 2 per year, with their work productivity. A Soviet overhaul could come as early as Q4 2020, and as late as Q2 2021. The patern right now is one DLC per year. I'm personally fine with that, quality over quantity.

My guess is that for the Soviet DLC that the USSR will hopefully get Spanish sized focus tree, or at the least a tree larger than the Allies. My other guesses as to what would go with the Soviets would be definitely Finland and Poland, but if they add another nation I don't know what it would be.

It would be highly like that the rest of the Mediterranean will get nation foci when Italy does. Expect a Turkish tree to go with a Greek and Bulgarian.

One thing is quality over quantity and other is that the game was launched 4,5 years ago and Soviet Union still doesnt have a decent focus tree...i am thankful to play as mexico per example but we dont need it. On the other hand we NEED a powerful soviet union that can held and crush the german war effort as it really happened. I prefer 2 DLC per year, 1 is too much waiting.

The Soviet Union should have been reworked long ago. It should have been priority number 2 immediately after Germany, but I would say it's even more fitting as priority number 1 given the huge importance of the Soviet Union in 20th century history, its centrality in the war, and its potential to impact the rest of the world. For alt-history it certainly has a lot more potential than Germany has.

The plus side of it being put off so long is that Paradox has finally gotten the hang of making good focus tree, so the Soviet Union having been put of so long means we'll be getting a much, much better focus tree than if we had gotten it, say, last year.

Since Bulgaria came up, I just wanted to remind people that Paradox said long ago, after Death and Dishonor was released, that omitting the country was a conscious choice. The decision was based on Bulgaria's lack of involvement in meaningful combat and unique equipment.

I know this upset, and continues to upset, some fans, but I didn't want those who hadn't heard to get their hopes up.

As Italian, recently I was reading about the history of Greece after indipendence. I agree with you, it seems that the devs produce focus based on the areas they touch and not about the involvement on war and it made sense. As said, I think that Italian rework and Greek focus are going to be relased togheter. Same thing for northern countries without focuses. I imagine at some point a Soviet rework with Finalnd and Scandinavia.

I can wait but I hope for great trees, Italy and Greece could have big alternative\historical what if, same thing too for Bulgaria and Turkey.

THIS. The quality of the trees keeps getting better and better as they add more and more focus trees. I think that it is entirely possible that the devs might be able to produce 2 or 3 DLC focus trees each year, as they get more streamlined to produce them. Hopefully the Soviet tree is the largest focus tree in-game.

This is one of the only positives I can find in this whole situation, even though its painful to have the USSR tree like it is now.
I believe part of the reason for the USSR delay is that they wanted to couple it with a land combat revamp, which is probably the most important and most time consuming part of the game from a dev perspective, until then we get a pitiful placeholder tree for the most important nation in ww2 along with Germany.

As for Greece, it's likewise a development choice, I was actually happy Italy was not remade with La Resistance, because when we get Italy later on I bet we'll also get a Greek tree worked in conjunction, and I believe this will make both trees better because the devs can create interactions between the two.

This is likely why Mexico and Portugal were made when they were, it was for Mexico to couple with the US, and Portugal with Spain, if Paradox didn't paired those nations they would likely never make it into the game I believe so Paradox took that chance, and hey I really enjoyed the detail in Mexico's tree.
Some may disagree but I think Paradox decision here will lead to ultimately a more complete game (if you buy the dlcs that is...)

Having said all of that... I would still liked if the USSR took priority, so I guess I'm an hypocrite. . .

Poland is considered a Major by the Dev team, simply because it was one of the 8 that started* with a Tree. Additionally, it was mentioned in the 'Road Map' when they discussed wanting to redo all the majors.

*In before "get a mod": I know Road to 52 is excellent.

Because people want to play the USSR and hence we need an updated focus tree for Russia before any silly focus tree for Greece.
