Well, that's more a discovery rather than an invention, but since you seem to favour medical advances, I think you forget about one of the greatest achievements done in the XXth century in medicine, transplants.

My vote goes to Ada Lovelace and her invention of the concept of programming. She created it (yes, even subroutines) back in the 1870's for Babbage's difference engine.

Not only did this have a tremendous impact on everyday life a hundred years later, it is also an invention facilitator. It multiplies the capacity of the humain brain for creation and discovery. You can do science without computers, but you can do a lot more with them, and without programs they're just a useless pile of junk.
