Assuming there is a 1861 scenario and that the Confederate States of America (CSA) is a playable nation; could Victoria be the best American Civil War game ever? With all the economic, military and diplomatic options available in Victoria, could this game, oddly enough, be the best representation of that conflict?

Imagine the CSA winning the war on the diplomatic front and such nations as England or France interceding and gauranteeing the freedom of the CSA. Imagine the possibilities!

Unfortunately for us Civil War buffs, the bar hasn't been set very high on strategic level Civil War games, so it wouldn't take that much for Victoria to claim the title.

Of course, I hope and expect Victoria to take the title hands down.

This possibility of winning the Civil War mostly through diplomacy makes my mouth water.

Oh, and there's NO WAY I'm letting Sherman march to the sea. And Kentucky WILL be mine! :)

there's a game being developed by walker brothers studios called war between the states. it looks promising.

not trying to take the light away from victoria, in any way. I am fully expecting some of the best gaming moments of my life playing as the CSA and I don't think that's overexpecting things at all judging by all those lovely screenies.

The war itself is nothing compared to the coolness of leading a free CSA through the massive social, economic and diplomatic tribulations it would have undoubtedly have faced to 1920.

Yhea, but do you know what's really fun? Crushing the CSA and reuniting the Union while blasting the Battle Hymn of the Republic. :p

Oh, and that WBTS game either looks really cool or really lame... I can't decide... A real, 3d update of Sid Meyer's Gettysburg with a full strategic element would OWN, but I'm starting to suspect that WBTS is Warcraft set in the ACW.

I'm looking forward to see if it's possible to conquer the entire U.S., playing as the Confederates. That should be a challenge. Was it possible? I've played a few good ACW games, and it was always hard as hell - and that's an understatement really. Stay alive? Sure. March into NYC? HAhaha, good luck.

...but, if I can laughably stomp the Soviets in HoI when playing as the Germans, I feel confident I may be able to conquer the North, when playing as the Rebels. Have to wait and see, though.

Not that I am pro-CSA, I'm just talking about the underdog challenger, ultimately taking all. Gives a sense of accomplishment.

ACW scenario - multiplayer, should be fun...

yeah, reading your post, my reaction was "ok, now try and conquer the north against a human..."

Which now has me thinking that the diplomatic complexities of a MP human US v. human CSA would be even more thrilling... and what if the CSA survived? Could anyone measure the tension over THAT border?

But seriously, playing against the AI, somehow you manage one brilliant victory after another - IS it possible to take the whole U.S. under the Confederate flag... or is that so ridiculously far-fetched that I shouldn't even bother trying?

But see... it's that "oh, it can't be done!" - that makes me want to give it a shot! C'mon now - what are the odds? Better or worse than for Japan to win against the U.S. in WWII? Better or worse than Germany conquering the Soviet Union?

All this talk about just 'surviving' as the CSA, no - let's go one step further... surely it's possible. You'd have to be damn good, though, and lucky, too. That's the idea.

The World Conquests might take a little longer unless you start with a major nation. Sheer playing time once you are up and running, say, 1,000 provinces takes its toll - and that is only half the world :D
