Great Schism question.

I'm Orthodox, but not the Byzantine Empire. I'm in the position to take Jerusalem and Alexandria. If I want someone to mend the Great Schism, am I shooting myself in the foot by taking these? I don't care if I do it or the Byzantine Emperor does, I just want someone to, and the AI is notoriously unreliable.

In theory, as long as you're Orthodox, it should work.

Nope. Seems to be a Byzantine only decision. They also have to control all the Orthodox Holy sites.

Makes me curious about doing an Orthodox game wherein you remain independent of the Byzantine Empire, but on good terms with them and not wipe them out. Maybe even help them. Through force or sex, turn the entire Catholic world purple. 100% Orthodox Christiandom, schism never healed.
