Playing as Brandenburg, broke Saxony's alliance with Poland. Poland has a truce with Saxony. I do not. I am about to declare war on Saxony, but it says I will gain 50 Aggressive Expansion, but says nothing about breaking a truce. If there is suppose to be a truce between the Great Power and whose alliance they break, then it is not showing up.

My issue with this is that there is no sign of this. I could of easily not seen the little -50 in the declare war screen and had half of Europe killing me.

If you look at your Diplomacy screen you ought to see that you have a truce with them.

The way to use the ability is to make the non-target break alliance with your target. Then you don't get a Truce with your target.

Not a very useful ability in single player, as you get a ten year truce with them and the alliance countries you broke only get five with each other. The alliance will be back before you can take advantage of it.

As I understand it, the truce is there exactly to stop this being a way to cheese through alliances of countries you want to smash. You have to think more in terms of sphere of influence, making some countries stronger and others weaker (like with the Influence action that gives the target bonus monarch point income).

Although if what SuicideSparrow says is right, that's kind of an oversight. You ought to get a truce with both of the countries you stripped of allies.

Nope, I did not have a truce with Saxony in my Diplo screen. Only way I saw it was with the -50 modifier. Problem is, Poland wouldn't break their alliance with Saxony. The only way I could do it was to have Saxony break it with Poland.

who did you target for the break alliance decision? if you wanted to go after Saxony you should off broke alliance through Poland. You will get a truce through Poland and not Saxony leaving them open. I just did this in my Mughals run. so you shouldn't have a truce with Saxony . If you DID target Saxony than yes you should have a truce. If its not showing up than it might be a bug.

sorry i read this after my last post. so yeah the break alliance doesnt really work that way. you dont sever them with the target nation and DOW them . you target your targets allies. So of course Poland wouldnt break it since they are stronk. you either use it on smaller allies. or you break it directly and wait out the truce. And of course on your second issue you should have a truce with Saxony. if its not showing up than most def a bug as i stated.

Is anyway to force AI break truce? I found it could be very helpful to deal with Ming if it works
AFAIK no. At least not reliably.

I have had the same issue happening. I know there should be a truce after I force an alliance break, but it is not displayed properly. I received a pop-up when the truce i used to have was over, even though I still had a truce to to the break alliance (Just a display issue, nothing game breaking).
But, when i try to declare war on another ally of the country I forced to break, the declare war screen allows me to select them as a co-belligerent when i should still have a truce. (this is exploitable and might cause other weird interactions)
