Got a small bit of a problem here.

Just playing along with the Soviets, I was heavy on my production, and I hit the Great Officer Purge event. Now normally, I'm one to tell the purge to bugger off (I like my generals thankyou very much), but this time I didn't have my usual free bucketloads of IC to soak the dissent quickly. I couldn't read all the officers that would die, and I didn't want to be further penalized by the two notches to Dove Lobby. I hit yes.

Now, my problem is regarding specifically one general who should not be purged.

In the aftermath, I noticed one of my generals was missing, General Gregor Zhukov. Not only my most apt tank division commander, but an up and coming later Marshall of the Soviet Forces in the 50's (real history). So, was I into the cheap drugs, or does the Purge kill off a few of the officers who shouldn't die? I'd just love to see a fix for that one, specifically Zhukov (I love him as a tank leader) and perhaps any other officers who unwittingly catch a bullet. Please, do some research and review who should be taking a bullet in the name of Josef the Paranoid.

Thanks.

The purge kills off a small percentage of other officers not purged historically at random. I once lost Zhukov, Konev and Vlasov in the same game hehe.

Another problem I noted playing as the Soviets, regarding another event that doesn't happen to me but still affects me.

I was playing the Soviets, getting a little imperialistic. I had done nothing save assault Persia. They asked for peace, I said no, I was already on the way to a full annexation. Not too long after I finally nailed the coffin shut, I had something slightly shy of horrifying happen to me.

I was wrapping up Persia, moving my troops to the border with Finland (this was early '39) for the Winter War, when all of a sudden, I get a notification. The USA had declared war on me. I looked back, and it was an event, very VERY far out of place, "Cold War Gets Hot". Now correct me if I'm wrong, but how can they start World War III, when World War II hasn't even broken out yet? Honestly, I can only guess it was triggered by a high beligerence (me taking over Persia at Nagant Rifle point), and that I don't mind. I can defend and hold against them. But when you go Unholy Alliance, and you've already had the Polish declare war on a nice open front, it gets a little obscene. I was at war with the Allies before Germany, and I had the Americans in the pile on top of it.

For the record, I was only playing on Normal aggressiveness. Is it just me, or shouldn't an event like that have a time requirement on it like, say, Must be After 1945?

What version do you have? Cos in DD that event will only fire when the axis no longer exist, ie Germany is gone.

The Cold War goes hot event has a number of triggers, including a long list of provinces that will trigger the event if owned by one or the other and Tehran is one of them. Hope that helps.

None of this has to do with Hardware and driver tech support, so as per the sticky threads it does not belong in this forum.

Besides, Zukov would probably have taken a bulet if he were not so popular after Khalkhin-gol. Acording to his autobiografy, he was very vocal in his anti-Stalin antics (this is far from certain, as this book was written during a anti-Stalin period in the USSR, but he was not a personal favorit for sure).

Edit: Tis does not mean that the "cold war get's hot" should fire before WWII, some triggers gor mangled by some unhistorical outcome somewhere. Shouldn't happen, but trust me, it's rare.

Edit2: I do dislike the hit that we have not researched our fact. We have.
Mistakes are made, sure, but that we have not researched something like this is just bull. Pure bull.

Warning, I have just got some 10.000$ in back taxes (yes 10k US$ :D ), so I have been out drinking myself silly. Not that that is an excuse, but it might cause some oddities.

60 non-random. 147 random.

Simple fix: remove the sleepleader -1 lines, which make up the majority of the event.

Another possibility would be to replace the event with an event-chain which first 'sleeps' certain leaders (like Zhukov), then does the random purge, then 'wakes' those chosen leaders again... that should prevent you from losing any of your key Leaders.

Ah.
So you're going one further than the original poster...
Sleep all/only the leaders who were historically purged.
But also wake the leaders who returned to service.
Gotcha.

You could also edit the Cold War Gets Hot event id = 69 which is found in the large \ db \ events hoi2.txt file

It's main parameters for your purpose are:
trigger = {
NOT = {
war = { country = GER country = ENG }
war = { country = GER country = USA }

date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1936 }
offset = 30
deathdate = { day = 29 month = december year = 1947 }

Just change the date from 1936 to 1942 or whatever you think.

Seriously, as the Soviet Union you don't need great leaders, you just need leaders.

Agreed.

Leader skill is not the USSR's long suit. All you need are enough ham-fisted clowns to avoid the -75% OCL penalty.

The best leader trait for an USSR leader is probably Logistical Wizard.

It's my favorite... especially Panzer Leader/Logistic Wizard, since those big clanking things load the TC so heavily, especially when in motion... a LW reduces the load by 25%.

During the Winter War, and any other conflicts I can muster, I like to get Vassilevskij (PL and LW) and Chuikov (WS and LW) up a level or two, then promoted, as i find both very useful vs Germany.
