CARIA has become a great power with more than 700 territories, the management of this empire is a daunting task that employs most of the members of the five great families in CARIA. Among them, our cherished Galestid family has improved its standing in the kingdom and its prestige rivals the ruling Ahmid family. Even the old Philothid family has more prestige than the queen's family.
With both families having the same prestige than the Ahmid, they demand Queen Apame to change the succession law to elective. Changing the law does not seem to favour the Galestid family, that has not enough succession support. Again the Ahmid family has the most support for the succession with the primary heir and being member of the Ahmid family still carrying a weight in CARIA. Nevertheless, Aetas Galestus, the Master of the Guard, has faith in Eumetas Galestus, the current governor of Warmala, to have an opportunity to the throne. With 18 years oldm he is still young.
The spring of the new year comes with changes in the succession support, the ailing queen Apame is shocked to see that her relative, Pihinakki, is no more the preferred successor to the throne of CARIA. It is Aithaios Khabbash, the governor of Sporades, who has the most supports. More than 70 years have passed since the last king from the Khabbashid family, Kerlainos. When he died the Ahmid family rose to power in CARIA by obscure means. This time around, the Khabbashid family is leveraging its prestige of more than 100 years ruling CARIA.
Meanwhile, Apame's hubris has grown so big that she starts a new wonder in CARIA naming it after herself. The Ahmid family has been 62 years in the throne and Apame more than half of this period. She styles herself as a demigoddess and her dream is that her successors make her a divinity in the Carian Pantheon, next to Wadukhaserwos and Iwasos.
With a striking turn of events, Pihinakki has rebelled against Apame. He thinks Apame took a bad decision when changed the law that was giving him the kingdom and wants to depose her to change the law again. Apame does not bends and takes swift action against Pihiniakki. He is imprisoned and lose his legate position. After the coup, the powers of CARIA change their preference for Euporos Philothid, Governor of South Lukka. He is seen more just and plain-speaking than Aithaios, a man of harsh manners.
Sadly, Euporos dies soon after being given the support of the nobles of CARIA. Once more, the self-controlled and secure Aithaios Khabbash is the best candidate to succeed Apame. Good news for the Galestid family, Eumetas Galestus is already the third more valued candidate at only 18 years old. He has a bright future indeed.
Apame is ailing, she is nearing her death due to gout and a depression. She has been a fantastic queen and although she has now very low legitimacy and a big self-importance, she is bringing CARIA forward to the future when she consolidated the status of Great Power for CARIA and by changing the succession laws to elective.
She is able to celebrate the ignauguration of the temple of Wadukhaserwos in her last days. One month before she died she said to her nearest friends that her depression was gone. Apame dies happy and quietly in her Palace.
Aithaiois I Khabbash is the new king of CARIA. The Khabbash family is again ruling CARIA and his first decree is to invest in the country. He wants to fund more professional armies for CARIA and for that he needs the funds. Workshops are built in all the cities possible to increase the production of trade goods.
Who is the next candidate to lead CARIA? Alxanor of 71 years old has the majority of supporters to succed Aithaios of 74 years old. It seems we are stucked with old men. But Opheltas Galestus, at 26 years old, is at very good standing in case the old men die. Something that happens soon after, the king is dead, long live to the new king Alxanor I! Sadly, he is near death and won't live long. Opheltas will not succeed him, the strong Lawoguhomos is better positioned for the job. A new king is in CARIA before a year passes. Lawoguhomos is at perfect health, albeit at 67 years old he will not be more than 10 years in the job. Will be finally the moment for the Galestid family to come back to power after 300 years since Wadukhaserwos Galestus rose to Tribal Chief? The situation isn't good for Opheltas. Two other candidates are better positioned as they are older than him. It seems his 29 years are a problem for the principal families to support him for the throne.
Meanwhile CARIA was occupied with succession disputes, the world was evolving. The long lasting power of Peloponnesos, an Aegean nation of the Argives people, is destroying the shrines of the proto-hellenics in Khalkidike. The nation of CARIA has not said anything, but the old families feel the need to protect the tribes that are living in the ancient lands of the Oerestae people.
Diplomacy against the Agean nations has started and contacts with the proto-hellenic tribes as well. They are no allied to the Great Power of CARIA but the kings will protect them as tribal vassals. CARIA has acquired three tribal vassals in the region of Khalkidike to stop Peloponnesos destroying the proto-hellenic shrines. CARIA also has guaranteed Petranoi, the migratory chiefdom in Orestis. However, the surprise comes when the emissaries frrom Petranoi bring news that Petranoi is allied to our sworn enemy and defiler of the proto-hellenic shrines, Peloponnesos! This unholly alliance should not stand, the land of our ancestors should be liberated from the Agean rule!
