Playing as UK in '39 scenario on historic difficulty (normal/normal).

Wow. This is possibly the best game I have played.
The new A.I. does unexpected and clever things.
1939, blockaded Kriegsmarine in Kattegat, saved Norway.
1940 saw UK and French forces hold the Germans at bay until September, my confidence was then shattered by a panzer Armee blitz, entry by Italy, sudden collapse of the French, Vichy, then an encircled BEF was pushed deep into western france and destroyed before a deperate evacuation attempt from Bordeaux could be made.

Italian forces were being hammered back to Tripoli in North Africa by my troops, and when Tripolis was taken I thought I could rest, while letting the unsupplied Italian forces dissolve. My mistake. This new A.I. is really quite unforgiving.
The Royal Navy, at first won naval battles with ease. Then, the Italian Air Force came -in some quantity and changed the balance. Relentless German air attacks on the UK forced me into massive fighter production, and slowly, the Italians pushed me back in North Africa. Sudden and unexpected (judging by previous A.I.) amphibious invasions along coastal rear-areas caused havoc.
The situation is now very difficult, and this is the first time I'm actually sweating over what to do next.
I have not enough forces and Germany is creeping across Russia, and the Italians are here with a vengeance.

A great, great game. Massive improvement in A.I. and enjoyment factor.

BEF lost, as I recall, HQ, 1 MOT, 1 ARM, 4 INF (4xART). There were 4 other seperate INF DIVS along the Belgian border and the BEF held the Ardennes. It did slow the Blitzkrieg for some months but then a massive German swing through Belgium into northern France was fatal for me.

There was a 'Battle OF Britain' too. The RAF suffered losses that were great. Luftwaffe attacks were unrelenting. Production was geared almost solely to Fighters & Interceptors with Radar stations. The only thing that saved me at this point was Germany declaring war on the Soviet Union.

So far, I think I will transfer a big portion of the Royal Navy from the Kattegat blockade and transfer them to the Mediterranean. The risk is of losing Norway. North Africa is more important strategically: If it falls to the Axis, the Mediterranean will become an Axis lake, and losing the med front will cost the allies the grace of having a strong position for possible invasions of Italy and southern Europe. The current Med fleet was almost destroyed by the Italians and I can't stop their reinforcements. God help me if the Germans send Rommel's forces (or equivelent). I am hoping that sending substantial naval forces will swing the odds in my favour, and then retreat back and recapture areas along the Libyan/Egypt coast. Its a race against time: if the Italians reinforce my captured rear areas and advance, I may lose my supply routes, and worse, Egypt. I've already put major infantry from India into Egypt. Hasty strategic redeployment of colonial forces in south-east Africa may buy me some time....

It is desperate, and as it did in the real war, Britain does 'stand alone'. So far, this has been the most dramatic game I have played.

I'm playing as Russia. It's 1945 and I still haven't cleared the Germans out. The Nat Chi invasion, which gobbled up a lot of my ICs hasn't helped either.
