I really like EU. It is by far the best game of its kind. However, the localization of the German version is atrocious. While the manual is quite competently translated, the in-game text is possibly the worst I have ever seen outside of machine-translated Korean VCR manuals. As far as the user interface is concerned, I did not find the manual very helpful, though. Nor was the tutorial game very useful, especially when compared to really good tutorial missions like those of Seven Kingdoms II, for instance.

I have also noted a few irritating bugs. Some of the slide bars do not work, sometimes the missions list is never updated (i.e. the currently selected missions remain there forever, regardless of whether the objectives have been accomplished or not), the button for combining several units is only occasionally selectable, and once the game simply crashed on me for no apparent reason.

In a semi-related problem, I have not figured out how to get troops from land onto a waiting transport ship if there are ships of other powers in the same body of water. Can you load them into the ships while the ships are still in port? If so, how?

Maybe this is something addressed in the patch?

You mean if different fleets are overlapping each other? I haven't had a problem with that. Simply choose your army and right click on the waiting transport. Just make sure your fleet has enough transports to carry your entire army, if it doesn't you'll need to cut it down by restructuring it. This is of course determined by the weight number of the fleet and your army. If your weight number (of the army) is higher than that of the fleet you won't get all of them on board.

I don't think so. I usually allow the fleet to move out of port a bit of the way and once it stops I then send in the army.

Hi Burschik and all others out there!

I also like EU very much. It's a magnificent game! The manual is really great, and the in-game messages aren't such nice. But they aren't the worst, by far! I've seen many other games being translated worser.
There are general problems when translating from English to German: German text needs more space AND German and English grammar don't fit. Also the best translator can't change this, there are always errors that terms don't fit in their spaces or that there are grammatical errors in the messages, because the game designers don't thought about German when writing the code.

The mentioned errors are only in the small in-game-messages. The longer in-game texts (descriptions of mechanics, trading goods etc.) are error free. But surely this is no excuse for some very annoying errors (often permutations), especially when the admiralty reports that an army has reached its destination.

Perhaps it would have been a good idea to beta-test the German version. It seems that this hadn't been done, that the German version hasn't been tested at all! Perhaps the release date was more important for Blackstar than an error free game! :(

If there was a German beta test, the testers did a really bad job!

Yeah, I was sure I've made sure that the weights were right, but when I right click on the overlapping fleets it just doesn't do anything. I will keep trying... maybe I just have to click exactly on my ship, which is pretty hard when they are all overlapping like that.

Von Curow,

I have problems trying to do what you say at various times, but its not that much of a handicap. Merely pause the game (if it doesn't work) and try again and no a.i will be none the wiser :)
