At 25 DIP points (around 3-5 months worth) per province, there's really no reason not to convert every single province you own to your primary culture. Absolutely no reason at all. None. I played Portugal last night, focused on taking down Morocco. Within 20 years half of Morocco was cored, Catholic and Portuguese. With culture being so easy to convert, it doesn't really mean anything anymore.

Didn't I read somewhere that PDS deliberately made the demo easier than the full game? Or am I making that up?

Only thing I've seen in the game itself is that naval attrition was severely reduced in the TUTORIAL. other than that, not that I've read.

Eu4 needs another 2 years full of patches, expansions, and features to be fun. Also needs more cultures and more religions. PI can never make a complete game, it always had to lack even the simplest things

If you continue like this, your country would not be in a really good shape 150 or 200 years later. In EUIV everything is about making the right choices; and you seem to be totally free in doing the wrong things. Thats what I Love about the new mechanics. We will see how it turns out in the long run.

At this rate, my country would be in great shape. I'd have my country, their country, and your country too. I was able to accomplish this as a 3rd rate military power like Portugal. Imagine if I had been playing Moscow/Russia, a country with uber-army ideas. Again, your 5% extra trade power would not stop you from being annexed. Some of you are going to have some very bad multiplayer experiences.

Culture and religion conversion indeed makes this game feel like a fantasy game. Felt like evicting orcs and migrating in elves in Age of Wonders. Push a couple buttons and it's done in a couple of years. Whole Balkans will be Sunni Muslim in half a century at most.

Now, do the same thing with Castile's territory as Portugal and return to us telling us of your new experiences with culture conversion.

If, as I suspect, you find that Castile's territory is not that cheap to convert and perhaps even so expensive that you might seriously consider not doing so, you will amend your original assertion of "culture is a joke" to the more appropriate whine, "overseas culture conversions are too cheap".

After all, if one has whine or engage in rhetorical excess in the first place, declaring entire game mechanics meaningless, it is important to be precise in one's accusations.

I'd have to side with the faction that thinks flipping culture should be really damn hard.
Even coring and flipping religion is too easy. Flipping culture as well is just too much.
I hope this will be fixed in the actual game.

Now, do the same thing with Castile's territory as Portugal and return to us telling us of your new experiences with culture conversion.

If, as I suspect, you find that Castile's territory is not that cheap to convert and perhaps even so expensive that you might seriously consider not doing so, you will amend your original assertion of "culture is a joke" to the more appropriate whine, "overseas culture conversions are too cheap".

After all, if one has whine or engage in rhetorical excess in the first place, declaring entire game mechanics meaningless, it is important to be precise in one's accusations.

But... What's the matter? Maybe conquering Austria as Hungary would be bad idea under these terms, but it should be the same for conquering Morocco as Portugal.

If I spent 200 points converting 8 provinces in North Africa, then that's worth half of a tech. It's pretty easy to tell you didn't play much of EU3 multiplayer. 8 provinces in exchange for half a tech is not an equal trade. If you think that half of a tech is worth more than 8 provinces, you had best stay in single-player. Players who actually know what they're doing will annex you over and over again in multiplayer and you'll wonder how your 2 level lead in diplomatic tech failed to stop them.

i know this is off topic, but since when do PI titles have multiplayer elitism... that stuff belongs to... you know, proper multiplayer games o_O with big multiplayer communities, and unfriendly people and all that nonsense.

edit: seriously dude... most people play this for single player o_O stop telling everyone how inferior they will be to you in mp... its kinda rude :(

Some of you are going to have some very bad multiplayer experiences.

That remains to be seen. Your unified blob might find it self blockaded by plucky Portugal that has its diplomacy tech several levels ahead of yours. That would sting if you were not able to respond on land. :(

Anyways.. you could be totally right anyways. Should be fun to find out?

This could be largely fixed if culture flipping used up a Colonist. That way you'd have to choose between building a colony or culture flipping and countries that don't colonize would have a use for Colonists too. Culture flipping also needs to be drastically longer. 10 years as the base with significant add-ons for non-accepted cultures, please.
