So, im playing Prussia and have a firm grip on the Lubeck tradenode where I have almost all of the tradepower except from Denmark with their Själland trade center. I have over 100% trade efficiency and have 50 light ships protecting it from Denmark. But some times, for a couple of months, or a couple of years, for no reason Great Britain steers away half the trade to the English Channel without neither a Merchant precent nor any lightships protecting trade. For no obvious reason they get 1700 current trade power and cut my trade income in half. WHY is that?

Like it says right there in the tooltip in your screenshot, trade power propagates upstream. It may be a frustrating mechanic sometimes, but it's hardly "no obvious reason".

The power propagating is 1041 and the 80% reduction means GB has around 5k trade power in English Channel which is compatible with 327 being only 5% there. The odd part is how 1041 times 1,15 gets 1795.

That's true, there's a lot of oddness/obvious inaccuracies in the calculations in those tooltips. It seems like OP was failing to understand the trade power propagation mechanic in the first place, though.

There is a little Great Britain Flag above the "We earn..." label, so they have some sort of Event Modifier impacting their Trade Power and it probably just isn't displayed in the Interface elsewhere.

Yeah I know but since you brought it up I figured there was no need for me to do it thus I mentioned the oddness since for me at least that tooltip tends to be generally accurate. Also to do it before the OP did.

Hum nicely spotted, that sounds like the reason.

Those little flags over "We earn" are the absent merchants. I have the same modifier in most of the tradenodes around me I saw now. The "Transfers from trade downstreams", but not that big of a number like GB. I just find it a little bit odd that you can steal halft the trade from a node where someone has all the power without merchants nor light ships.

I think the little flags indicate a modifier, a specific example of which is the "absent merchant" modifier.

I.e., it may be absent merchant, it may be something else. Given England's huge boost to power there, I'm guessing it is something like +50% trade power (multiplicative with the final trade power number).
That would explain how 1040 * 1.15 = 1795
(1040 * 1.15 ~= 1200. 1200 * 1.5 ~= 1795.)

I'm pretty sure there's an event modifier that does give a very high boost to Trade Power at the cost of lowering your relations with the countries in the node.

That's most likely because embargoes aren't working. The modifier for an embargo is included in the UI, but it isn't included in the calculation.

Yeah I mean. I think it has to be a bug to. I mean, I like these random events and you get some great stuff from it like stability. But how realistic is it that a country once in a while just randomly happens to walk over half the trade income from the most powerful country in the world where you have no influence what so ever?
