News from the Graphic Front

test.bmp

!ATTENTION!
If somebody wants to test reworked 3d animation of tank, here is the link:

Renault FT 17

For now it's only replacing the standing british and german Level 1 tank in normal game, so the graphic is visible only when it's standing. Any comments are welcome. And unzip this to your Hearts of Iron 2 folder :) .

EDIT: Now it has graphics for moves in all directions, but the 'standing' animation is too big and the moving animations works only with german tank(but I'm working).

I was checking out .02 last night and I have to say the team has done a great job thus far. I was a bit surprised at how many pictures were missing. I have followed the mod for a while and could have sworn I had seen a pic for just about every unit for the major nations. I figured this would be an area that would have been fleshed out rather quickly. I have no experience modding images to fit the standard format for HOI2 but if more photos are needed I have a fair collection on my home computer and have a bit of down time and could find some more. If the mod has all the photos it needs but they need to be converted I would be willing to learn and could try my hand. If there is no need for more images then, I look forward to the next update.

That is really excellent - are you willing to attempt to model other tanks and machinery?

Have you ever considered trying to animate warships, for example? :)

Everything is possible. I think that boats aren't so hard to create. The only problem is my lack of informations about ships of the era.
Here is Mark IV that I'm slowly creating:

I'm sure that I create the tanks, but all this flying machinery...
We will see. Probably I will create them too.

Well, do not worry too much about aeroplanes, as we already have someone who is particularly talented in creating sprites for them. :)

The Mk IV tank is looking very impressive indeed and I am glad that you are not discounting the possibility of modelling warships - there should be plenty of information on Internet sites by amateur ship-modellers which would be useful, I think...

I like early warships too...those sponsons :D . And I will be very glad to create early U-boot. Now I'm finishing this Mark( I will place screenshot shortly). I've got one question: When you delete this "C-GER" in the sprite name; would it be used from that moment by every nation that don't have tank sprite???

Edit: And the best thing about these tanks is, that I can even place camuflage on them  !

To transform a German sprite into a generic one, replace 'GER' in the file name with 'MIN'. :)

The Mk IV is really very good - how long does it take you to create these?

If you wish to create a German U-boat and a British E-class submarine, or anything else, be my guest...

So here is Mark IV generic graphic that I've created yesterday. For now it's only standing but I will update this download soon. In my opinion this Mark's animation is better than FT17's. Allenby please take a look (and watch the sponson, it has two elements moving:)). Creating one tank takes me about 2 hours and it's great fun for me  ! Worse is conversing it to an animation.

EDIT:And I don't want to provoke somebodies anger but ships from the era looks similar for me (I don't see big difference between them). Maybe because I don't know much about them.

This might help: it's a plan and side elevation of HMS Dreadnought herself. (It's a scan from Jane's Fighting Ships.)

dreadnought-line.gif

In terms of scale, Dreadnought was 160m long, 25m wide.

Here's a battlecruiser, HMS Invincible:

invincible-line.gif

She was 173m long by 22m wide. Note that the diagram depicts the central turrets in an unusual position, probably to show how they can rotate: normally, the port turret (bottom one on the diagram) would point backwards (ie, rotate through 180° from its current position in the diagram), and the starboard one (top one) forwards. (Presumably it would have to elevate its guns before rotating, or they'd hit the other turret...).

Thanks, Thanks, Thanks! It's a great help! Now I will study these pictures closely and start work.

Where is this scan? I don't see anything
Please give some documentation about this battleship because I will be happy to start with something huge and spectacular.

If you right-click on the red X's that Stephen posted, copy the link and paste it into your Internet explorer address bar, then you should be able to view the plans and photographs.

As for Dreadnought's deatails, Googling 'HMS Dreadnought' brings up a wealth of information. This one from the Royal Navy site is useful, for example: http://www.royal-navy.mod.uk/server/show/conWebDoc.878/changeNav/3533

The plans (left side, top, botom) are most useful for me. I'm ending work with the Mark. He would be my first completly animated icon( he has got animation of firing as well and from every angle!). After ending him I will probably start the ships. I think that the good idea is to create generic machinery (to eliminate orginal HOI2 graphics) and after that create things like A7V. What do you think??
