Problem with demo

I downloaded the demo, but when i try to run it apper a message "128 of video memory is required to run this game", but i have a ATI Radeon 9600SE Series, that have 256MB, and play games with much better graphics, like Age of Empires 3...
I tried to do what MrT said in the " If you are having graphics problems with the demo..." topic but is with the same problem.
What i can do?

Whats amazing is that the game's not even out yet, and already half the forum is screaming for a patch/fix (me included). If this shows one thing, it's how much we're used to the guys at paradox giving us excellent customer support. So to all patch requesters, have patience, I'm sure paradox won't let us down.

No disrespect to Paradox's dedication, but some things just can't be patched.

On that note, I'm the guy who ended up prompting Johan to come out and announce the PixelShader 2.0 spec that caused the initial controversy and graphics card spec threads a few months back. I wanted to avoid the fiasco involving Civ4's graphics upon release, and I bought a new card specifically for EU3. That's right, you guessed it, it was an FX 5200.

I'm a draftsman who gets by on older AutoCAD releases and other obsolescent software for his work. I play a handful of games on this machine, and will not be purchasing any more for it before its replacement (~24 months). I want to be able to run EU3, however.

Barring this 1.1 patch that some are suggesting will "come through" for the 5000 series substantially improving performance, what are bare-bones cards that will actually be functional (and by functional, I mean that the program will not only run but will not experience serious lag and skipping)?

I don't give a damn about graphics, and would have turned off every option for animation and whathaveyou regardless of the situation. I actually delete sprites to improve loadtimes in my other Paradox games. Assume that I've done so before rating the functionality of my new card.

it also shows that we're used to the fact that every single game that paradox releases is very unstable and has generally many problems (regarding balancing especially).

Of course, Paradox is far from being the worst on that matter, but it's always frustrating to not be able to play a game when you have the system requirements for it. Paradox may gain some customers by upgrading their graphic engine but they also will certainly lose a lot of customers because of the high system requirements for a game that is not that beautiful graphically.

I can´t for the life of me understand how people with hardware that is four years or even older expect to be able to run a modern game.

The FX5xxx series was launced in what? 2003? Pixel Shader 2.0 have been more or less standard for the last two years.

I´m pretty sure most of you with older graphicscards atleast have an AGP port. That means you can buy a decent new card for under 100£.

Stay home tonight instead of going down to the bar and you saved around the same amount.

I think I know what the problem is here. Your computer says that your Graphics card has 256 MB of memory. However, to the best of my knowledge, the X550 is either a 128Mb or (and I think your case probably) a 64MB. Then the graphics card uses a pretty neat trick to steal some of your on board RAM to increase its share of the RAM. This fools your computer but not EU3. We are currently working on a fix/work around for this problem.

I know, that x550 is a 128 MB card, but (and i don´t know how this works) in my settings I have two x550. when i click on g-card, two pop up: it say`s x550 and x550 secondary ...

and what surprises me is that i can play world of warcraft without any problems, better then before (and i had a 128mb before) and i can play burning crusade as well ...

so still hoping, if not, then let me know and i`ll buy probably a new one ...

Since we know exactly why this is happening I have more confidence in being able to get a fix together. So I would hold off buying a new card for the moment.

Better late than never, was busy disk scanning and defragging. o

No errors except for cursor loading. However, how serious is the processor requirement, would an AMD Barton 2500 do for a P4 1.9 GHz?

Edit: I noted that the latest nvidia driver 9371 (my card is FX5600) dated from 2 November, 2006. A new release might solve my problem, no?

Just a little update...

The devs now have enough reports to know what's going on and work on a fix, so there's no longer a need to make a dxdiag and send it to me. We'll keep you posted on development.

Thanks to all who took the time to send their reports in to me. It has really helped the devs to track down the problem so quickly.

Concidering it's performance on my 128MB card i dread to think how it would run on 64MB.
Perhaps there should be more graphics options? Ability to turn off the sea animation forexample, and the flag animations. None of those animations are essential to gameplay, and they do take up precious resources.

Yea, graphics level scaling would be a great bonus to those of us with less than super pc configurations. There were none in the demo, and nobody has mentioned whether it'll be present in the final version. If it isn't, it should be on the priority list for a new patch.

As much my laptop will suffer with only 64mb while playing EUIII, it will be worth it regardless... I really do hope that the devs would be able to come up with us poor souls!
