I thought that Rome could use this, a lot of people have been going over to the EU3 graphics request thread to request flags and the like. If people have images they'd like converted into flags directly I'm certainly able to do that, nothing complex about it, so I thought I'd offer that up.

This should give people who use Adobe the tools to alter the .dds and .tga file types which Rome uses. When it comes to more sophisticated graphic design however, like making a flag from the design on a coin, I'm fairly useless. Hopefully we can get some skilled artists in here volunteering a bit of their time and effort. The period is unlike any other Paradox game in that most of these countries never had anything remotely resembling a flag as we think of them, so a plus is that people will have a lot more freedom to create interesting designs that they think represent these groups.

MrT said:For people interested in working with graphics files, another member posted a link in the GD forum to the nVidea Texture tools page. This includes:
* DDS Utilities - 4 separate utilities:
o nvDXT - command-line binary version of the nvDXT library
o detach - extracts MIP levels from a .DDS file
o stitch - recombines MIP levels into a single .DDS file
o readDXT - reads compressed images and writes .TGA files
* 3ds max .dds Plug-ins - Allows 3ds max to read .dds files. The installer includes versions for 3ds max 3, 4, and 5, as well as source code for the latest version.
* Adobe PhotoShop Normal Map and DDS Authoring Plug-ins - This installer contains two plug-ins. The first creates normal maps from height maps for per pixel rendering. The other is a DXTC texture compression plugin for Adobe Photoshop that allows you to open and save .dds files in RGB format. It reads and writes .dds files compressed or uncompressed.
* DDS Thumbnail Viewer - llows you to view .dds files in Thumbnail view in the Windows Explorer. Now with an installer.
* Texture Atlas Tools - A collection of tools for creating texture atlases, which can help to increase batch sizes. Comes with an installer, Atlas Creation Utility User Guide, Atlas Viewer User Guide, and a whitepaper about texture atlases in general.
* Windows Texture Viewer - WTV was developed for simple DDS viewing, especially for those DDS files with an alpha channel.
* Documentation - Useful documentation.
All of these can be downloaded via the links on the http://developer.nvidia.com/object/nv_texture_tools.html
