Graphics on the campaign map

Well, I had a little question about how to mod the Icons on the campaign map.

For example, forts, coastal forts, AA, signs. Is there an easy way to do that? It is just for my own, so not for a mod.

If you go into HoI/gfx/map you'll see files you need to alter. The only restriction I'm aware of is that AA and Radar share the area they cover, so neither can get too big.

Ok, but i see some images next to eachother, how does this work? Is that just changing the icons and keep them in the same file? For example, the air base icon, one if there are planes in it, and one without it.

The airbase and the two ports have icons for occupied and unoccupied - just look at the number of icons in the file, and divide the width of the picture by that number, to get the maximum size for a replacement icon.

Ok, and ive to save it as a .bmp ofc right?

Yes, but nothing greater than than 24 bit resolution.
I should also mention that there are already a large number of alternative icons available if you don't want to go to the trouble of creating your own.
