There is a point when you have to admit to yourself that there is a problem my problem is and I choose to be blunt the graphics are shit I apologize for the bad language but it seems appropriate, I am always amazed by the beauty of HOI2 I walk in to the room with my cup of tea and I think to myself my god thats a good looking game. I do appreciate that graphics are not foremost in the minds of paradox when it comes to game play but if you travel that road then you should at least be artistic. I don't see any reason why functionality and beauty can not be combined. The landscapes look miserable in the screen shots and are for me very disappointing, I think I could put a coherent argument together why they are wrong but I prefer the word crap.

Got to do better just a little better.

Edit : I don't want Rome total war just bog ordinary style.

I agree, they do look pretty crappy. Not my first and foremost concern, but I am hoping that they will be cleaned up signifigantly before release.
It works for me and looks adequate for gameplay purposes. What do you suggest?

How much did diplo change from the first shots? Although I really like the UI the terrain itself doesnt look very good. I guess if you have been looking at the map for the last couple of months then you finally get used to it and cant see what all the fuss is about. Hope that the betas wont be all complete and uncritical fanboys....

I do hope these are only alpha quality shots and some artistic touch will be applied later on in the development cycle. I do hope so because I can't imagine staring at something that looks like paper cut-outs for hours and hours a day.

I'm optimistic however, Paradox devs are bright guys and I think they've scheduled the work on the game well. The ingame logic is by far harder to get right than looks, which can be tuned at the very end according to the public feedback.

Try to remember that EU3 has only just gone to Beta. So we are actually privileged to see the development of the game as well as the diaries that Johan posts (and he certainly is not obliged to do so).

Yes, one can have issues with certain elements of the game, but try and at least be constructive with your arguments and concerns. It does no-one any good (Developers or the rest of us) if people just turn around saying 'this is crap' or 'this is shit'.

Be a little more constructive with your concerns please.

I would personally like to see terrain like that of civ4 (with the blue marble graphics mod), but obviously more rounded edges to continents, civ4 has slightly squarish continental edges.

And I'd also like to see the 3d animated units in the game of the same detail as those in civ4. It would be nice

I admit not very constructive I was in that kind of mood. The map for me does not look appropriate for this type of historical game. I know its early stages yet and this may be just one of many maps. As it looks now I see ill defined borders and clutter I think we all like to pull back from the tactical and see a beautiful political looking world. Not the most important aspect of the game but if badly done it could be disappointing.

I do have confidence in paradox to get this right.

Since they are only alphas, the rubbishy looking flags will likely recieve full texturing. As for the map itself, it looks good, save a few jaggies that will likely be polished out.
