Grant Statehood - Any reason not to?

What does "statehood" do (apart from allowing you to build factories)?
What's the trade-off?
Are there any?

Crime, education, etc. are more expensive, I believe.

It will raise your costs for the pops there. ie, literacy, crimefighting, social spending etc.

I live in Washington, D.C. No statehood, no voting rights.

(well, I do get to vote for President, but it's a pretty pointless exercise since the Democrat always wins our electors--usually with more than 90% of the vote)

But I sympathize with you. I live in a heavily Democratic county where my vote is meaningless in all but a presidential or senate election.

Colonies, but those not in India, can be granted statehood.

IIRC you can't build facturies in colonies if you don't grant them statehood ,so that' less workforce for you.

Yes, thats a whole region of several provinces. It's really not that confusing, you'll get used to it methinks.



Also, you can only grant it if it meets certain conditions, i.e. same continent or nationality...forget what all it is...

1054 sq. miles. In the game, I've seen it appear in screenshots and it's just one province.
