The relationship between England and Wales is immensely complicated - far too complicated to discuss here.
My breakthrough in reading history came when I threw off any hints of patriotism (I don't like patriotism at all anymore... I think it's far more destructive than constructive). Now I tend to view historical politics as what they were... different sides all interacting and communicating for their own ends. Now I can see Welsh chiefs and Princes in the same light as I see English kings and barons. When you see it like that, the actions of both sides becomes more clear. When you aren't looking for reasons "to be proud" history makes more sense imo. It took a while for me to get there, but I've found history far more interesting since. That's what enabled me to take a depper interest in Scottish and Welsh history and I appreciate their side of the story now... which perhaps was less the case when I was a lot younger.
Trouble is, I don't get to sit and read history as much as I used to... I have read John Davies' History of Wales though.
