BJ, do you reckon you could have a crack at a Lorraine-Habsburg-Austria shield for Austria?

Would this do? :)

Hi Birger I found the one I was after (Union of the Crowns) but your links seem to be invalid. Any chance you can re-upload them, or e-mail me all of the above please?

mandead@gmail.com - I like them all (especially the new Irish and Dutch ones judging from the post prior to that, with the flags showing the patterns) so if you could send me them, I'd be most grateful.

Many thanks once again! :)

Jim.

I think this one looks best so far for Austria. After all the eagle was nothing more than just a supporter not really a part of the shield.

Btw. Jimbo_Jools if Birger is busy I will gladly send you what you are looking for as I have all EGUSFM alternatives. Just send me a PM and I'll reply. ;)

You rekon that looks better for Austria than the yellow shield with the black eagle on (read the previous threads; I replaced the Dutch-looking Lion shield with it)?

Indeed, but it is accurate for at least some of the game timeframe, and it doesn't have any overtly Imperial trappings - given that HAB is not always the Emperor, that's a good thing. I still use the Habsburg lion tho

Can I just ask, when was the British Union Flag (technically, it's only a 'Jack' when it's on a ship...) first used as the official flag?

There is some confusion about this, because I know James I designed it himself (or at least earlier versions of it?) when he became King of England and Scotland, in the Union of the Crowns, after 1603, but as far as I know it wasn't officially adopted until the Act of Union 1707, under the last of the Stuart monarchs, Queen Anne.

Can anyone shed any light unto this subject? The reason being I'd like to know whether to change the flag type to Union Flag in 1603 or 1707...

Cheers,
Jim :)

From FOTW: http://flagspot.net/flags/gb-hist.html

The design of the Union Flag that preceded the current version was established by a royal proclamation of 12 April 1606. However it was for use only at sea in civil and military ships of both Scotland and England. In 1634 its use was restricted to the king's ships. The flag went out of use in 1649 when England became a commonwealth but was restored for use in the king's ships after the restoration in 1660. The flag became 'the ensign armorial of the United Kingdom of Great Britain' as one of the provisions of the Act of Union in 1707, when the kingdoms of England and Scotland were united.

I'll keep the St. George's flag until the Act of Union 1707 then, cheers.

You can use whatever shield you want, ;) that one is more of a medieval shield though.

Finellach... Finellach... That's a modern day coat of arms. :p
I think it was Leprechaun that showed me this arms (colors reversed)

Birgermandudew00t - yes, that is a cool name - can you please make me a British North American Union thingymabob flag please? I saw one on Kaigon's site and t'was cool but it was also the old GFX style, so of no use.

I'd like it a hanging flag like the US & UK flags in the EGUFSM, but... sort of Americany/Britishy... it's for a trigger if the British win the American War of Indepedence. Design is totally up to you... I want something that looks cool and would have realistically been used by an Anglo-American administration over in the States... like, say, if they'd been given semi-independence in the style of Australia or Canada. See what I mean?

Thanks, and I think many would benefit from it :D

Well I can't...you must make them. :p
Personally this classic CoA of Austria fits best, first it's not imperial(as I said eagle is really a supporter not a part of the CoA) and it represents Austria, not Habsburg family.

Alsace is a modern entity. And btw. thats not a CoA of Alsace, the one I posted here is the same CoA that was used from the begining to this very day. It shows the union of Nordgau and Sundgau....upper and lower alsace.

.

It's actually the arms of the Duchy of Austria. ;)
Anyway, I'll see what I can do...

We had a discussion about this when we where making GUFSM, I'll see if I can find the thread...

Strasbourg was the capital of an independent state within the borders of the Holy Roman Empire (thus outside France) until 1803. This state was ruled by the bishops of Strasbourg and they used the arms of the city in opposite colours (red field, silver bend) as arms for the state. In 1803 the state became part of Baden.
