Mr. G, since I'm mainly after the fuctionality rather than the art I hope this card gives me some game. big thing for me is that I get some MultiPlayer and see if the EU3 Community is anything like the EU2 Community. I miss the good ole days, EU2 just got boring though after so many games. Everyone was real eager to try something new I hope this game is worth the trouble. Nearly 110 bucks total

it certianly looks very attractive on all the screenshots and from all the AARs I've read, Cannot wait to see her!!! Years of waiting!!!

A 6200 will work, of what I've heard.

weirdly enough I tried a quick start and the new patched game works on my intel intergrated computer... well sort of. Whereas it used to autoclose after the opening cinematics, now I can actually run the game if I choose.

A quick survey only revealed one problem and that was with the map. None of the provinces seemed to be colored in for me. I tried changing the different map modes and it didn't work. I just saw a clear europe with red borders all about. I could see the troops and everything when I zoomed in and everything else appeared to be fine, just the map itself wasn't colored in.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? Please note that I only briefly tested it out of curiousity as to whether it would work or not.

this is a very long thread so i am going to have to ask *maybe already asked* i have a radion 9200 128 pci card...............it is saying i need shader 2.0........now i am assuming that i don't have that because it is not letting me play.........is the correct or is my settings just not where they should be? i know this is a very simple question but don't want to have wasted the money.

by the way i am able to play the opening cinimatic but when it comes to playing the game it dose not work.........i get the pop up at that point

The 9200 will not work. You need at least a 9500 in the Radeon line to run EU3. A GeForce 6100 or later will also work.

intel chipset of what you're talking about uses software and is really really slow with it's emulations, it's not even true. Many games I've used crash, lag a lot and or have issues. I heard that there is a mod map that makes things more liveable with Intel users, but that it wasn't much of an improvement. To truly play Multiplayer and get and real feel for the game I highly suggest upgraded the video. I have seen what you're talking about it's not really worth it

The PS 2.0 requirement will not be removed; while there may eventually be a fix that allows Intel's emulated PS 2.0 to work that will not help non-Intel cards that lack it.

That is exactly what I got, and boy the lag was dreadful, I do not think it would be playable in Multiplayer and I really am dissappointed having played Victoria, HOI, EU1-2 and I even tried CK...

So have the LE card in there and tonight I'll see Eu3 for the first time in technocolour it's sort of like the transition from the 50s to the 60s for TV for this game eu3. Intel is just impossible, I found that my 2001 7200 ATI did a better job with 64 megs of ram and God knows it's specs, ancient probably pre Millenium than my Intel card with MANY games :( It's sad I use to think the only thing that mattered with a Video Card was Ram and the date it was built, but apparently that is not the case... I bitterly dissappointed with Intel, I spent 20 or 30 bucks already with a membership to WW2online and I had DREADFUL FPSs on there. I was getting the equivelant of 1/8th of the capacity of a 1999 video card with that game NOT EVEN :(

really ruined my day too because I about 25 frogs jump out of a truck and I couldn't Hose them down with my Panzer MGs, it would've been a legendary move, the lag was soooooo bad

and with a pentium4 2.8 1 gig of ram you should at least get LOW Performance not Complete Non-performance, my older 1.9 with 512k of ram and the ati 7200 did better than that... I hate the fact I bought a Dell, DO NOT BUY ONE! If you do ENSURE THAT YOU GET NO INTEL CRAP plus they make it so all your stuff is built on and you'll have a hell of a time finding drivers, I find their technical support great but their equipment, excuse my french a pain in the rearend to upgrade. Many Laptop users I've seen just suffer...

Ahem..looks like a piece of awful modern art ;)
Anyway, I´ve got the same chipset in my NTB and the demo does not even bother to start...so you are one step ahead :p

I'm running an Nvidia 6600 GT, and everything runs fine -- on max specs, as well. I'm wondering, though, why other screenshots look better than mine.

For example, I have the red borders that you see in that above screenshot.

This is an older screenshot, but you can still make out the red borders.

Those red borders are the country borders and are supposed to be visible.

The 1.2.1 patch info posted states that it does not work with the 945 Intel series.

The 910 series does the same to the map.

Patience, it's possible the next patch will fix or Intel's drivers will be updated, one of those things. That's what I am waiting for.

well software companies better figure out how to use Intel's crap cause i checked out office depot yesterday out of curiosity and every one of the laptops they had for sale in the store today uses an intel graphics chip set.

Like it or not Intels chips must be good for the manufactures and will run pretty much everything else except for certain games... Paradox isn't just loosing out to the old computer market there is a significant chunk of brand new computers that it won't run on...

i like Paradox games but wether or not I can play a certain game is NOT on the list of performance criteria I use when I purchase a computer. I hate desktops, and don't have the space or time for one anyway... my last 2 computers are both less than a year old, (one home and one work) and neither will play the game. I'm pretty much giving up hope I'll ever buy another paradox game... to bad I've had every game since EU2..

since I can't play the games I want on relatively new hardware anyway likely my next laptop will be an apple, if for nothing else to avoid microsoft.

Actually, not quite.

It's not for software companies to (try to) circumvent malfunctioning hardware that does not (fully) adhere to defined standards.

And in this case it's Intel that has been cutting out pieces of a defined standard (DirectX 7, 8 and 9 to be precise) in order to save on the transistor count in their chips.

And until recently that was not a problem. Most desktops with Intel graphics chips under the hood and most laptops are used for office applications under operating systems upto and including Windows XP. That's 2D bitmap rendering, and they do that very good. However, just as these chips (because the functions are simply not implemented) can't run DirectX games that attempt to use those functions, they can't run the new Vista desktop interface either.

Intel (because of Microsoft's Windows Vista and the Aero interface) is now finally working on a new graphics chip that does include all defined functions, but that unfortunately won't do you much good now.

AFAIK new Intel GMA-X3000 (but not GMA-3000), chipset G965 has hardware T&L, but there are no T&L compliant drivers. Chip was released recently but only for desktops. New notebooks (Centrino Pro/SantaRosa) with 965 chipset should be available in May or later

OT: jpd, you have a nice signature, I wonder were did you found that? a TV series perhaps? :D:D:D
