Grand Graphics Card Question Thread - pre-sales and demo only!

Hi all. I have one question and i think i know the answer but i have to ask.

I have Fujitsu Siemens amilo pro lap top and my confiuration is this
intel procesor 1.6 ghz
504 mb of ram
Mobile Intel® 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family

Now what is the problem. EU3 doesn't work.
-civ IV is working ok (not slow, not fast)
-Civ city rome is working ok
-new medieval is working slow (exept for fights when is working extremely slow)
-Galactic civilization II are working ok
-Age Of Empires III also work ok

but EU3 doesn't work. On the internet i sow that my crap of a graphic card is
supporting pixel shader 2.
Graphics Controller Vertex Shaders 1.0-3.0 Pixel Shaders 1.0-2.0
Mobile Intel® 915GM /GMS,910GML Express Chipset YES1 YES

So can enibody tell me where is the problem?

The problem is that you have an Intel Graphics Card. Short of getting a new card, there's not much you can do. Paradox has suggested they might look into it a little bit, but I wouldn't bet on it. It's a well known problem, and not just with EUIII.

It is indeed the graphics card. Given that EUIII has been out for some time now I think its extremely unlikely that Paradox are able to fix this issue.

The Intel chipset problem that there Software driven not Hardware driven. In certian games you'll have issues... it's a given!



Sadly for anyone that has a propierty or a laptop upgrading can be tedious. It is unlikely they're will be a fix. I have seen more than just EU3 though with problems, I have seen personally people with issues and I have had them with other games. EU3 the worst.. I have never seen a game require so much that is really not all that mindblowing graphically. It is a shortcomming of a smaller company. That is not to say they do not make what we like, they do, it's just something that say Sid in Civ can fix because he has 10 Mill to throw around I doubt that Johann can throw that cash around on a problem like this, his programming is a bit more Linear and lacking the compability will upgrade or buy later. Also counting on a Cult Following which will upgrade no matter the cost!

Not to say though that this wasn't an accident or oversight, on Paradox, they should've beta'd this game with lower cards and printed on the box do not attempt to run this with anything but GeForce +6600 or ATI X---

you want an answer for 108 bucks you can upgrade that is the simple part... and know about comps... 6200 PCI from newEgg or the VisionTek ATI PCIBus for junk comps... If you've got an AGPplus or a PCIexpress upgrading is a breeze with a 250-350 watt PSU with adapters if neccesary at least... for 30 bucks on Ebay you can find a used Video Card ez

I have a HP notebook with a ATI Mobility Radeon X300 128mb, AMD 1,8 ghz, 896 RAM etc.

How can it be that games like Medieval II: Total War run relatively smoothly with this computer but EU3 - which doesn't look nearly as good as M2TW - runs poorly? I've got like a two second lag inside the game. Everything is slow. :wacko:

i was just wondering the same thing, i was playing mtw II earlier today(it doesn't run smooth but it is playable), got this game, then played it :S

i have a geforce fx 5500, its unplayable, way to choppy.

i was also just looking at the req. for caesar IV, another game im interested in, it only requires 64mb card and a 1.1 pixel shader. Im not sure about the graphics for that game but it looks alot better then this from the screen shots.

It kind of sucks, the whole reason i got into paradox games(and im very glad i did, best games ive ever played for sure) is gone, i started playing these games cause thats all my older computer could handle.

aww well, i guess i should get CK finally and play that till i can play this game.

I am now aware that EU3 will not run with this vid card.

If I replace the card with an EVGA 256-A8-N295-LX GeForce 6200 LE 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X will the game run correctly?

Yes, but with a better crad it will run better.
But it will work with a GeForce 6200.

I had a GeForce 6150LE and it was unable to run this game very well. (It froze regularly). I'd recommend a GeForce 7300LE

how about the X1300? same as the 6150 LE? I am looking at two cards the 6200 OC overclocked PCI and the X1300 ATI PCI both bus

both pretty low end cards but very expensive and hard to find.

Do you mean PCI and not PCI-E?
X1300 should work, and I think the ati in this case is better than the nvida.

In DirectX benchmarks ATI X1300 is similar to GF 7300 and better than GF6200

To Sir John: A 6200LE is worse than a 6200; I'd recommend avoiding it, and paying the extra $5 for a 6200 (or as someone else suggested, a 7300... but only the 7300GT is available for AGP, I believe).

How about a 7600GS? The one I'm considering has 256MB on the card so it should be the last card I need with this computer. I'll be buying a new machine in about 2 years I guess, so the card doesn't have to be top of the line and I don't want to spend more than $100.

I have a GF 7600GS and works very well, it's much better than 6200 and it's not an expensive card (well 7600GT is slightly better but I don't think we need more). I0'm not sure about 7300GT vs 7600GS (perhaps they are simmilar)
