That is utterly false. HL2 crashes some X minutes in-game, and Civ4 just runs at a low FPS.

EU3 litterally doesn't allow the IntelGMA950 to run due to a programing ommission. It is completely artificial.

Here is my bug report: CreateDevice Call Fails on Launch (with solution)

I can't open your bug report via the link you included. A pop-up appears telling me that I don't have the proper authorization to access the link. Can you post a link that can be freely accessed?

I'm trying to run EU3 on a Toshiba Satellite with INTEL GMA945.

Thanks

Too many pages, can't bother to read through them all, so dunno if this has been posted/proposed earlier.

Anyway, there is something called Oldblivion which does the following:

How does oldblivion work?
Oldblivion attaches to Oblivion and applies certain non-permanent patches to it. This means that once you exit the game these patches will vanish as they are only done in RAM. Some of these patches are for making sure that Oblivion doesn't crash when run on hardware which lacks certain new functionality. It also changes the shaders used by Oblivion from pixel shader 2.0 and vertex shader 2.0 into pixel shader 1.1 and vertex shader 1.1.

This might be something that can be used to create a programme package that enables eu3 to be played on old systems, IF there are any skilled and dedicated programmers around.

Good idea, but by the moment nobody do any mod for emulate pixel shader 1.1. Only Bhaar got this: http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=284809

Yes, i've looked into all that, as well as read the rest of this help section.

One of the games that wasn't supposed to work was CIV IV, which i've had no trouble with running. If the graphics weren't running smoothly, I could understand, but the fact that it will not even attempt to enter the game gives me some pause.
Civ IV as a game works just fine, though I've not tried it in any sort of multi-player setting, so can't say what would happen there. But there are in-game things that don't work so well, such as the wonder movies. Intel says that, with the 82945G chipset, the game may run slowly during heavy fight scenes, and MAY give out an error message upon startup. Presumably one of the Civ IV patches dealt with that (probably the very first one, since I recall a LOT of unhappy people with the original game out of the box).

The game with the same issues as EU3 is Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. As someone pointed out, this was solved with an add-on program. Nothing done like that for this game, yet.

My computer keeps crashing when I play Europa Universalis III, and I believe that it is due to a problem with my video card.

I have a Geforce 6200 OC with 256 MB DDR. It is a PCI card.

After my computer crashes, and restarts, I get this message on the desktop:

The driver for the display device was unable to complete a drawing operation. Please check with the device manufacturer for a driver update.

Error Signature

szAppName : Drivers.Display szAppVer : 10DE0221A100000000
szModName : nv4_disp.dll szModVer : 6.14.10.9381 Offset : E81E06EA

The Following File will be included in the error report.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I'm looking at getting an XFX GeForce 6200 AGP card (I'm 90% certain I have an AGP slot; bought this computer in May 2004). I note that it says it's compatable with DirectX 8.1, not 9.0. Is that going to cause a problem with EU3?

If you have an AGP slot and its either AGP 4x or 8X, get the GeForce 6600 instead, its more powerfull and its still cheap :)

The 6200 supports dx9.0.
Thanks, that's good to know.

TheBoss, I'm on a tight budget here...I don't usually buy games when they're new to begin with, and I'd prefer to pay less than $75 CDN for my graphics card. I'll look into the 6600, but all the ones I saw were around $95+(Incidentally, since I can't use NewEgg, is there a good Canadian online retailer?)

Update your drivers. Failing that register your game and ask in the tech support forum.

I have tried the newest driver from NVIDIA, as well as the newest BETA driver, and neither works.

Where is this tech support forum? I can't seem to find it in the forum mainpage.

You need to reigister your game to access it. Click on "My Games" and enter the code on the back of the manual...

This is all a bit confusing for someone who doesn't take a moment's interest in how a computer is thrown together.

My limited understanding tells me that I will not be able to run this game using:
Intel D866GBF / Intel Extreme Graphics 2 + AGP 8X Graphics Interface...

Is that right?

Otherwise I have to wait till I upgrade my machine... or buy an expensive graphics card?

An amusing fact about graphics drivers is that while everyone says "get the latest drivers" this is not always helpful. For example, playing Oblivion on my old 6800 was slower on the new drivers than it was on the older ones. This is because the new drivers were designed for the new cards (eg the 7000 series) and added nothing for the 6800. When I tried the older drivers (the last driver release specifically for the 6000 series) I got a much better framerate.

You can try the latest drivers from nvidia, but they will provide not extra support for your card than some of the older drivers. In fact they may hinder your performance. Check out the release notes for the nvidia drivers and download the last 6000 series version (or the last version which added functionality for the 6000 series) and see whether that helps.

Yes. Even if they eventually get it to work on Intel GMA 9xx it will not work on your older chip.

Not that expensive. $50-$100 should be good enough.

Hi,
I can't start EU3. It says that there is a problem in eu3game.exe (russian distributor). I'm not sure that problem is in graphics card, because all modern games that require good graphics (like Medieval 2) work good and fast. The details about my computer are:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180 (IE 6.0 SP2)
Direct1X 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)
Intel Pentium 4 640, 3200 MHz (16 x 200)
Asus P5GD1 Pro (3 PCI, 3 PCI-E x1, 1 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN)
Intel Grantsdale i915P
RAM 2048 Ìá (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
BIOS AMI (06/01/05)

Video GIGABYTE RADEON X800 XL Secondary (256 Ìá)
ATI Radeon X800 XL (R430)
Audio Realtek ALC880(D) @ Intel 82801FB ICH6 - High Definition Audio Controller [B-1]

Could you help me? Do you plan to fix such bugs in the future patches?

Hi,
I can't start EU3.

Well I finally got round to installing a 6200 PCI card. The game ran quite slowly (approx 1 sec/day with the TOT mod) but with little to no lag. So its very much playable.

A question regarding drivers though - does anyone know where I can download the latest drivers for the 6 series or even what version this is?
