With the new patch there was a nice line in the patchnotes saying that Granada also gets its own set of ideas.

So I thought I give it a try.

Turned out to be a mess... I played like 50 games, all failed at least in the second war. From there on it got even worse as I am now the #1 enemy of Castille, Aragon, Portugal (which seems to be always allied to England) and France.

My allies should be also very strong as there are Marocco, Algiers, Tripolis and Tunesia.

Now when it comes to war I noticed that the AI alliances perfectly harmonize with each other. They give all their troops under one command and steamroll the crap out of me. Having to fight 3 different 8-12k armies is managable but fighting one 25k army is just not possible with Granada.
I also noticed that in contrast to the AI alliances the Player alliances are much more idle. I am yet to see an army landing at my coast to support me, while the AI/AI coalitions always do this.
There seems to be a handicap for the player on this. Combined with the fact that you face at least 2-3 armies on your own with your - god knows why - outdated troops which cannot win a battle even when outnumbering the enemy 3:1 it seems to me that this task is clearly impossible.

I know there are tactics like migration. I also tried this. This is also impossible as the first revolting Rebels crush your army in a matter of seconds.

While I understand the aggressiveness from the bordering nations like Castille and Aragon I cannot understand while all of Europe unites against a tiny 3 province Granada.

One more thing I tried was (after finding out how the console works on a laptop) cheating. Whenever Castile and his gangbros declared war on me I switched tag and disbanded all their armies just to try how that might work.
Result is withing 10 days they replenish their army buy hiring mercanaries. Apparently the AI (often called "Skynet" - which i understand now why) is working so damn effectively that this Ryuku WC guy can go hide as the AI knows much better about all exploits and how to crush you with that.

Result is me being here and asking for any advice on how to survive as Granada without cheating and eventually starting a colonization game as them in the new world. I'd also love to see screenshots of people who managed to do this

Your best bet is probably abandoning Iberia altogether. Go and conquer a 1 or 2 province country in greece and set up shop there. If you're dead set on staying in Iberia don't waste your time allying with the North Africa muslims as their navies arent as strong as Castille's so they wont be able to ferry their armies to you. You want to try and get The Ottomans or Mamluks on your side as quick as possible as they have sufficient strength both at sea and on land to be able to help you.

I have been annexed more as Granada than all other countries put together. I'm still trying to unite Iberia with them in an exploit-free way that does not involve abandoning the homeland.

It may take for 1.3 to be released for me to get back into it in a big way, but I'll post progress if I ever manage.

I have attempted an aggressive start where I day-1 DOW Castile, preventing them from allying the other Iberian powers. This was cannot be won by any conventional means and usually results in being reduced to an OPM, but preventing a Castile-Aragon-Portugal alliance leads to tensions, usually over Navarra, which can develop into war, but it's war that I never fail to see Castile win.

The fight goes on.

To push Muslims out of Europe? That's kind of what they were teaming up to do for whole crusade period.

It would be easier if they were westernized from start...
They are latin techgroup in EU2
Not sure it matters much as you are likely to get annexed way before tech gap opens. And if you are capable of surviving and recovering as Granada, westernization would be a breeze for you :)

Its because of that hard-coded historical friendship between Portugal, Aragon and Castile that makes it hard to play with Granada after 1.2. Lets wait what patch 1.3 might bring, I have a sense it might become a bit easier for Granada. By the way there are more Granada threads:

I concur, wonder if this is consistent everywhere else as well.

Lol, Granada is hard? I've tried so many times to survive as Chimu in Ironman haha.

At least with Grenada they got their own set of ideas, a lot of the other OPM's outside of Europe get crap default ideas.

Yes, everyone who looks for challenge should try Chimu. It is the single hardest country to survive in ironman mode.

It's doable! You have to be little lucky in the beginning. What you do is that you dow tripoli and annex them. The luck is tripoli not allying. Dont dow on day one, for some reason they always get an ally then. Wait until you have shipped your troops to tunisia. When you have annexed them you are big enough and close enough to get an alliance with the mammeluks and the ottomans. This combined with the other north africans makes you safe. Then sell the one province closest the mameluks to tunisia. After a while border friction makes them hate each other enough for you to start a war an gobble up tunisia.

Well, if you are not averse to cheating, why don't you try 'winwars' instead? It gives you 100% war score in the wars, and I suppose you can restrain yourself to just peace out. If you are going to use it, remember that it is a toggle. You will have to type winwars again to turn it off or you will keep getting 100% warscore in all the wars.

This vassal gaming gets things going way to easy:

qFkke7y.jpg

More or less played the same way as with my Byz game :)

Castille still wont attack me and they even got the mission as you can see. I havent even had any whatsoever troops in Granada since day 10.
Only Genoa has yet to declare on me (they got the Gibraltar Greed mission).
