The "lasting effect" being the permanent separation of then-New Granada (now Colombia), Venezuela and Ecuador, I'd suppose it is modeled already at scenario start...

Anything else would probably just be giving them all cold relations (but not hatred) to each other for most of the next ~70 years.

Other than that, I doubt there'll be a "fantasy" option to recreate that union, but then again if someone really wants to, I'd think that it could be modded once the game comes out.

Well, I was thinking more in terms of each of the component counrties having claims to the territory of the others, and the possibility of declaring the "rebirth" of the "gran colombia" if certain conditions are met. Akin the formation of Spain, or the continual rebirth of France in EU2.

Attempts were made - or rather, planned - so I think it will indeed be modded if it's not included. A Bolívar's Dream (ie uniting the areas he liberated a la US of South A) would also be nice to see, although close to impossible to achieve.

Not really impossible to realize. Ecuador was (and is still to a degree) fairly weak compared to its neighbors.

A strong colombian or venezuelan state need only worry with conquering the other. Panama and Ecuador would fall/join fairly easily then.

Ecuador lost lots of territory to Colombia and Peru during the period following it's independance. It was mostly luck that it didn't get divided up b/w colombia and peru.

Ecuador had borders with Brazil at that time and they ceded us some kilometers. :)

Some!
As I recalled the original Spanish grant for Ecuadro /Quito was from the present day Ecuador clear to the Atlantic in one wide strip. The whole Papal division costed them 3/4 of the country, then the 1/3 left got gobbled away by colombia (10-15%), peru (45-55%) adn I think again to Brazil (5-10%). So you could say Ecuador today is about 1/10-1/8 of what it could have been ;)

re hey9000

I know it ended on 1830, but will the gran colombia (or any lasting effects of it) be modeled in the game?

Maybe Colombia should have claims on some states in South America.

But Spanish claims on Colombia won't let this state exist longer than few years. At least in my game :D

Conquering is one thing, making a solid and united country is something completely different. Seeing how he failed with Gran Colombia I have hard to see how it would be possible to do for all of Spanish America.

I don't think Spain should have clains in the American continent (except Cuba). When Spain recognized their independences they gave up of these territories.

Also Puerto Rico

I would say the same for East and West florida. West Florida was annexed by force and then retroactively added into the loiussianna purchase, and east florida was ceded under "threats" of annexation (I.e they couldn't defend it, so sold it before it WAS taken by force.)
