Mission 079: 0.5 Skull Assassinate ____ Employer: Local Gov ____ Target: Magna Metals Incorporated ____ Biome: Highlands
Lance: Wolvie (Behemoth), Snipe (Medusa), Fives (Gramps), Fearless Leader (Glitch)

Report: Heart of Darkness - A local government commander has mutinied and is looking to set up his own authority as a subsidiary of Magna Metals. We've been hired to eliminate him. As we drop in, there are numerous engine signatures that Sumire has highlighted, and we move to engage the group that is on our far left flank. 2x FS9-H (pilot kills), FS9-A, LCT-1E (pilot kill). After eliminating the escorts, our target lumbers into view and is methodically disassembled. BJ-1 (pilot kill).

Damage: Only armor. ____ Salvage: BJ-1, FS9-H, LCT-1E assembled and moved into storage.

Report: Supply Lines - Continuing our effort against Magna Metals, this drop has us clearing an area to reopen a transportation route. Our employer is limiting us to 160 tons, but is paying a good amount of C-Bills for the job. Hostile units are located quickly, and are eliminated in short order. COM-2D, COM-1B, FLE-15, LCT-1M.

Mission 081: 1 Skull Defend Base ____ Employer: Local Gov ____ Target: Unitron Incorporated ____ Biome: Tundra
Lance: Wolvie (Behemoth), Valykrie (Medusa), Fearless Leader (Glitch)

Report: Automation - Our last contract is a rapid deployment to protect a base from an impending attack. There are some turrets in place, but they will not be enough to stop all of the attackers. Also, we're limited to 160 tons again, but I reserve enough salvage in the negotiations to reassemble a single mech if we find something interesting. As a last surprise, it looks like Unitron has deployed a computer virus to lock the turrets in place. An engineering team has been dispatched to help, but we need to provide them cover from the advancing vanguard. LCT-1M, TBT-5J (pilot kill). The vanguard is eliminated and the light turrets are brought online (3x LRM, 1x Shredder), and we pivot to engage the main force. Both of the governmental APCs are destroyed, and Glitch has a scary moment as the Shadow Hawk lands some autocannon fire into Fearless Leader's arm, destroying an empty LRM ammo compartment, but none of the buildings or turrets are even damaged. 2x FS9-A, FS9-H (pilot kill), JVN-10N, SHD-2H (pilot kill).

Damage: Fearless Leader, LA reduced to 25% structure, LRM ammo destroyed. ____ Salvage: SHD-2H assembled and moved into storage.
Advancement: Medusa: Guts 7 to 8.

Firey Plains
____Yang repairs Fearless Leader before we even get to the jump point. With no work planned for the near future, I expect that Yang's crew will enjoy the absence of a pressing deadline. Instead, they decide to use their free time to protest their current situation.

Event - No Techs, No Mechs: I'm called down to the mechbay and find Yang pushing between a group of pilots led by Medusa and technicians entangled in a shoving match at Fives' feet. A message welded into its torso reads: "No 'Techs, no 'Mechs!" Looking to quell the unrest, I decide that money talks, and announce that I'll set aside a million C-Bill bonus for the end of the year to be paid equally.
Result: The complaints quickly die down, and the damage to Fives is repaired. +4 Morale! +4 Tech Points for 30 days! Medusa gains Dependable. Yari gains High Spirits.

____We arrive in Firey Plains within a week, and contact the Alphard Trading Company about their flashpoint request for assistance.

____Lord Davinder Singh is our point of contact for the Alphard Trading Company, as he has been requested to renegotiate ATC's license by House Marik. Part of his briefing included information about how we faced Satan's Kittens before, and he has a plan to capture Laura Murray if possible and kill her if not. The first part of the plan is to pretend to be a pirate group and capture one of the Kitten's officers. That will give us the intel needed to locate and eliminate a supply convoy. This should provoke a response, and expose Ms. Murray herself.
____There are some captured mechs from the Badlands Horde that are available for us to use, which would let us intercept the lieutenant as she travels via convoy. Otherwise, we could use our own mechs to assault a Kitten base to capture her. I decide to use the Badlands Horde mechs, and save the wear and tear on our own.

Mission 082: 2.5 Skull Escort ____ Employer: Alphard Trading Company ____ Target: Satan's Kittens ____ Biome: Martian
Lance: PXH-UNK (Gramps), SHD-UNK (Medusa), WVR-UNK (Behemoth), RFL-UNK (Glitch)

Report: We drop onto the martian surface and begin to move out. A defending lance intercepts our movement, and we move to engage. I get too close and overheat a few times thanks to the enemy Firestarter. FLE-UNK, PNT-UNK, FS-UNK (pilot kill), JVN-UNK. After clearing that unit, we secure the convoy and encounter a patrol returning to base, but eliminate them swiftly. VND-UNK (pilot kill), BJ-UNK, PXH-UNK. As the vehicles begin boarding the dropship, enemy reinforcements arrive, but they are too far away to prevent their departure. GRF-UNK (pilot kill), ENF-UNK, BJ-UNK.

Damage: PXH-UNK, 3x Overheated. RFL-UNK, 1x Overheated. Reputation with Alphard Trading Company increased to Liked.
Salvage: GRF-UNK assembled and moved into storage.

Lance: Valykrie (Behemoth), Wolvie (Medusa), Fives (Gramps), Fearless Leader (Glitch)

Report: Using our own mechs for this drop, I feel much better about minimizing our own damage. The lance drops a little bit behind the convoy, and Medusa detects the tail end of it, drawing the attention of the escorts. ASN-UNK, 2x VL-UNK, GRF-UNK. The convoy also becomes visible as it moves across our path, and we pursue it once the escort is eliminated. The Striker proves to be extremely speedy, but its extraction is held up long enough by waiting for the Gallant Urban Assault vehicle so Glitch and I are able to eliminate it with LRM fire. Gallant Urban Assault, PPC Carrier, Striker, Bulldog. Reinforcements arrive to support the vehicles, but with the destruction of the convoy, we pull back behind a ridge to let our heat drop and they seem unsure what to do next. We take advantage of our Ace Pilot ability to pop over the ridge and snipe them. KTO-UNK (pilot kill), WVR-UNK (pilot kill), TBT-UNK, PNT-UNK (headshot).

Damage: Only armor. Reputation with Satan's Kittens decreased to Indifferent. ____ Salvage: VL-UNK assembled and moved into storage. M Laser++ recovered.

Report: We drop into a good position, and move into cover to better receive Kitten's approach. Her escorts detect us first, and move to engage. Medusa gets shut down by the Inferno Carrier, but is able to quickly recover. GRF-UNK, ENF-UNK (pilot kill), Inferno Carrier, Manticore. Additional forces arrive in our front arc. VL-UNK, ENF-UNK (pilot kill), CN-UNK. Eventually, the Mad Cat comes into view - a heavily modified Marauder. We focus our fire on its center, and blast apart its reactor. Sadly, none of its lostech is salvageable. MAD-MC.

Damage: Wolvie, 2x Overheated. Reputation with ATC increased to Friendly. ____ Salvage: GRF-UNK assembled and moved into storage. LRM5+++ and LRM5+ recovered.
Advancement: Gramps: Gunnery 9 to 10 - Improved Resolve Gain. Medusa and Behemoth: Guts 8 to 9. Glitch: Guts 9 to 10 - Max Skills

____The captured pilot of the Mad Cat is imprisoned, but it is not the Laura Murray we remember meeting before. The pilot bears a striking resemblance to Natasha Kerensky, but she does not admit much of anything amidst a wandering conversation interspersed with bits of Russian, other than indicating that House Marik wants her dead for some reason. In the end, I decide to believe that she is Laura Murray and hand her over to House Marik. Our reward is 1 million C-Bills, a TTS+++ for ballistic weapons, and an LRM20+++. Our reputation drops significantly with Satan's Kittens and increases significantly with the Alphard Trading Company, but we remain Indifferent and Friendly with those organizations, respectively.

Mission 083: 2 Skull Capture Base ____ Employer: Taurian Concordat ____ Target: Satan's Kittens ____ Biome: Martian
Lance: COM-2D (Guano), PNT-9R (Stubble), UM-R60 (Pontoon), Rainmaker (Gramps)

Report: The B Team - I decide to take this mission, where a local defense force needs some training. With the recent defeat of Satan's Kittens, this base should be relatively easy to capture. Since I'm not expecting much from these rookies, Darius negotiates more for improving our reputation instead of salvage. As we approach the base, it does indeed appear empty, so I have Stubble take the Panther to secure the facility while Guano scouts ahead in the Commando. Pontoon does her best to keep up with me in a supporting fire position. An enemy force soon appears on Guano's sensors, and we move to engage. The enemy Marauder destroys the arm of our Commando, and overheats the Panther, but we are eventually able to destroy it. COM-UNK, PXH-UNK, MAD-UNK.

Damage: COM-2D, RA destroyed. PNT-9R 1x Overheated.

Report: Humanitarian Concerns - A wordy explanation is received for what should be a straightforward base capture. There is no drop limit, so we bring the big guns to take advantage of the favorable salvage terms. Our movement towards the base is detected by a lance of defending mechs. 2x LCT-1M, SDR-5V, FLE-4. After clearing them, we are engaged by a set of light turrets. 2x LRM, 1x Shredder, 1x Laser. Additional enemy units are detected on approach, so we set up a welcoming committee. However, their ECM protection lets them decline our invitation, forcing us to close the distance. PNT-UNK (pilot kill), FS9-H (headshot), SDR-5V, FS-UNK (legs kill).

Micros III
____We sell several of the mech chassis that Yang has assembled and then leave orbit, heading for the Interstellar Expeditions flashpoint in Johnson's Reef to deal with something that Came From The Rim. Yang begins work on repairing Wolvie, as well as upgrading the rest of the mechs to incorporate the new equipment. Speaking of new equipment, I come across someone working on just that.

Event - Moonlighting with a Medium Laser: Polish is tinkering with a Medium Laser in the mechbay. I decide to let her keep working on it. It doesn't turn out well.
Result: 1x M Laser destroyed. Polish gains Low Spirits for 14 days.

____Scanning the black market items for sale as we pass Micros III, I find several Friedhof Gyro++ listed, as well as some other items. The contracts also seem decent, and it's a very short trip, so I decide to stop. The day after we leave the jumpship for the planet, Sumire calls the command staff to the bridge.

Event - Suspended Service: Comstar is suspending jump service to many systems across the Hyades Rim. Farah indicates that her research into the supposed Laura Murray's lostech cache has provided a lead, but it is in one of the systems affected by the Comstar outage. After considering the options, I ask Darius to reach out to the Alphard Trading Company and leverage our good reputation.
Result: The negotiations are not cheap, but they are effective, and we will be able to travel unimpeded. We lose 150k C-Bills.

Our drop is limited to 240 tons, but that is entirely manageable. The expected salvage opportunities are good, so I decide to take Snipe out for a hunt. We are able to meet up with the convoy without incident, but as soon as the vehicles get moving, Taurian forces pounce. ASN-21 (pilot kill), LCT-1E, JR7-A (pilot kill), LCT-1M (pilot kill). ____Having had our fill of contracts, we sell some reassembled mechs and then return to our travels towards Johnson's Reef. Yang begins upgrading all of our mechs with the new gyros, which will hopefully keep our repair bills down. Darius also has received a request which may do something similar.

Event - Continuing Education: Mouth and Behemoth want to get in some additional training. We don't have any simulator modules, so I organize a pen and paper exercise.
Result: Mouth and Behemoth gain 50 XP.

____Nothing is particularly interesting during the rest of the journey, but after we enter orbit to review the market for jobs and contracts, I'm impressed by the selection, which includes enough salvage to recreate a Star League era Phoenix Hawk as well as a SLDF Warhammer! During a trip planetside with Darius to get more details about the Interstellar Expeditions flashpoint, a heated conversation attracts my attention.

Event - Echoes of the Past: A banker, or loan shark, or some type of debt collector has apparently given a final notice to a middle-aged couple that are begging for a reprieve. Remembering a similar situation from my own past, I decide to take care of their debt as a show of good will.
Result: We lose 25k C-Bills and the couple is very thankful.

____We are contacted by Lord Karosas, an Aurigan noble, regarding the Interstellar Expeditions expedition in this system. We are to locate and protect Professor Bambo and his crew. JR7-F, CRB-UNK (pilot kill), WVR-UNK (pilot kill), COM-UNK (legs kill). Once we secure the area, we broadcast that it's clear for Professor Bambo to move out. Mission 091: 2.5 Skull Battle ____ Employer: Interstellar Expeditions ____ Target: Antithesis Creed ____ Biome: Badlands
Lance: Valkyrie (Behemoth), Wolvie (Medusa), Fives (Gramps), Fearless Leader (Glitch)

Report: Professor Bambo joins us on the ground, and we advance to eliminate all enemy units. VL-5T (pilot kill), CDA-2A, VND-1SIC, COM-1D. Another dropship arrives, and deploys a lance of mechs that freaks out Bambo as he directs us to immediately evacuate, and to not engage the new arrivals. We clear out the blocking force, and I decide to sensor lock one of the new arrivals to get a look at what has Bambo so worried. I'm able to identify a modified Archer before my lock breaks. I decide to engage the unknown units to cover Bambo's evac. A stealth Annihilator opens fire with Gauss Rifles, missing Behemoth and making me reconsider. Glitch knocks down the Archer with a hail of LRM fire, and we see a stealth Warhammer maneuver for a shot, which misses. A shimmering form which coalesces into a Rifleman slams into Behemoth, catching her with a melee attack. However, Medusa uses the opportunity to leap behind it, destroying the mech with a focused shot through the rear armor.
____ This seems to check the advance of the mystery units, and while the Archer gets up and moves back into a mineral field, Behemoth is able to jump behind the Warhammer and severely damage its center torso before its stealth field reactivates. Glitch then jumps close enough to sensor lock it, allowing Behemoth to finish it off before leaping away. Professor Bambo extracts successfully. Wolvie is hit by Gauss Rifles before maneuvering clear, but thanks to my sensor locks and Glitch's LRMs, he is able to jump back and knock out the Archer's pilot. That leaves the Annihilator, and we work to focus fire on the pilot in order to recover the mech intact. ARC-UNK (pilot kill), WHM-UNK, RFL-UNK, ANH-UNK (headshot).

Damage: Wolvie, RT reduced to 5% structure, Double Heat Sink destroyed. Reputation with Antithesis Creed reduced to Disliked.

____Professor Bambo is already underway to the jump point by the time we get back into orbit. Farah suspects that the 'ghost' mechs were using a Null Signature System that was developed for SLDF special forces. Interrupting the command staff's conversation, we are contacted from the surface by a representative of the Evil Eye organization. In brief, they are aware of what has gone on, and have an offer for us that relates to a lostech cache owned by the Antithesis Creed. After some consideration, I decide to accept the Eye's request for assistance.
____As for payment from IE, we receive 1 million C-Bills, and an LRM15+++. Our reputation with them increases to Honored, and our reputation with the Antithesis Creed drops to Hated. Yang begins repairing Wolvie and loading the improved LRM15 into Fearless Leader. However, a few days into the work, we receive a call from the Evil Eye.

Event - Gangplank: Darius hands me a note. The Evil Eye has contacted us and indicated that Mouth is an Inheritor spy that betrayed Professor Bambo's location. We need to deal with this before we are offered a job with Evil Eye. Sumire reviewed the logs and confirms that there have been unauthorized calls made around the times that Mouth was off duty. I decide to confront Mouth with the evidence.
Result: Mouth realizes that his cover has been blown and shoots at us before we can get close enough to restrain him. He is eventually subdued and sent out an airlock. Mouth dies - killed while resisting arrest. Morale -3.

____We receive a communication from Evil Eye a few days later, presenting us with a flashpoint contract in the Sebha system. The mech refits and repairs are completed, and we hire a pilot to take Mouth's place. There are a few opportunities available in this system, so Darius begins lining up contracts.
