Just a quick suggestion for the religious map in India, if you're alright with people making suggestions; I've read that there was a reasonably strong following of Vajrayana Buddhism among the tribal peoples of western Odisha/eastern Chhattisargh as late as the 10th century, with a few notable Vajrayana saints and teachers originating from the area. Perhaps they could have a few provinces there? Might be interesting to give the Vajrayana a presence in mainland India, anyway

Decided to priortize the bookmark over the map, new goal is for an alpha of this to be released by end of the month.

Yes, Justianian will have his own bookmark, and we are planning to eventually enable a scrollable history from 1066 to 395.

That's the bookmark I look forward the most - the Byzantine Empire at it's height right before the Plague of Justinian. One wonders what would have happened had there been no plague...I suspect history would have been tremendously changed as the Byzantines were in full fledged invasion of Italy in order to unite Christendom. Ergo, no Roman Catholic Church as a result - just for starters.

Well, actually... the Roman Catholic Church was established more or less by Constantine, and further set in stone by Justinian.

I suspect they mean that the Pope and the Eastern Patriarchs wouldn't have broken apart, hence no "Catholic" or "Orthodox" Churches as we would think of them in the modern sense. Certainly, if the Empire had held Italy for longer, than the idea of the Papacy as an independent state and the Pope as a sovereign ruler would be less plausible. And given that Constantine was all about centralising as much power to his own person as he could, I suspect that he would have looked dimly on the idea of an independent Pope

I just want to remind people that while we have been doing quite a lot of work in the background, this release will be an early alpha, so just watch out for bugs and errors. Report what you find in this thread and we'll get to it for the beta release early next year.
