Anyone else experiencing this issue? When my game is set to 100 % resolution scale, my gpu (GTX 1080) is running at 80-82C at 60 % load. This seems too hot, mostly because none of the graphics settings affect it (tried leaving it all low for a while with no effect).
The only thing that helps me is downscaling res. scale to 90 % which brings the temps down to 75C. I have vsync and frame limit turned on, played with those settings aswell.

My case and fans are clean and have good flow of cold air. This is one of the only games causing such gpu temps.

Turn off Vsync. The rapid frame refresh rate tends to do things like this. I have little use for it myself, as I can't do much if I can't see what's going on because lag.

Try it, and see what happens.

Thanks for the tip but sadly Vsync off doesn't help as I mentioned in my original post, I've tried playing with the max framerate and vsync. Hopefully in the future this gets fixed somehow, for now playing with 90 % res. scale is a doable workaround.

Then the best info I have for you is that the high temperature readings are MEANT to happen based on your specs. If this is a problem, do some research on what causes your systems to heat up, and change your settings accordingly. If I were you I would also check for lag. There are times it happens over the course of gameplay for me, but if it happens frequently, rather than occasionally, it probably ties into your hot components, so you may need to scale back your settings. You don't need to have top quality settings to play the game.

i7-7700K, 24 GB RAM, GTX 1080, System running on its own SSD, games running on M.2 ssd. I really really doubt there is spec problem. I manage to run much more demanding games without the temps reaching beyond 70C, thats why I am convinced this is game specific issue. And as I have already mentioned, none of the settings in game make any difference to my temps. The framerate is stable at 60, no issue with performance. Don't take it as an attack or anything, just these general advices dont apply here.

Heya @SlyJacob!

Thank for reporting this issue. Any chance we could get a DxDiag and the player log from you (preferably one after you have just finished playing the game and noticed this issue)?

The player log is in the same location as the output log was, it is called simply Player and here's the location:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Iceflake Studios\Surviving the Aftermath\

These will help us look into the situation, to see if there is anything we haven't considered on a system like yours.

Thanks in advance!

Hey. I'm having the same issue. I can't think of a single game (including AAA games) that stresses my system as much as this game.

There is definitely a HUGE optimization issue with this and I'm not the only one stating this.

There is probably a ticket somewhere in the backlog regarding this and I understand other issues are more pressing , but please don't forget about optimizing it.

This is the only game where I 100% have to plugin headphones in order to hear myself think.

Ryzen 3750H, 1660ti, 16 GB RAM

le: actually it seems it was using my integrated GPU (Viva instead of Nvidia) , hint here: /forum/threads/blue-screen-every-time-i-play-the-game.1438855/post-27048121

Did it work?

Also, welcome to the forums.

Thanks !

Well , it did improve things but now instead of cooking my integrated GPU it cooks my Nvidia card instead haha.

Temps are constantly over 90C CPU/80C GPU (Nvidia).

Playing Control (3rd person AAA game) I usually hover around 80C/70C and the fans are obviously less loud.

So I still stand by my affirmation that the game needs considerable optimization.

Ok. My expertise ends there. Check other games, make sure they run on the Nvidia card. Things still heat up, you may need your computer looked at.

The point of my trying to help is to make sure its your computer that has problems, not the game. Computer problems can be resolved faster.

Don't take it the wrong way, but better a bad PC than a bad game, in a context like this.

Look , I'm just saying a game like Control (please Youtube it if you're not familiar) stresses my PC (bad or not , irrelevant) LESS than this game.

Other games that I'm currently playing:
- Phasmaphobia
- Two Point Hospital
- Frostpunk
- Risk of Rain 2

All of these put less stress on my PC, although I don't believe they should since they seem more demanding (better graphics , more stuff going on..).

I just want to make sure the devs have this problem on their agenda.

Thanks for hearing me out.

Who stated that it's using 100% ? I implor you to read what other people are taking the time to write before you reply to them, thank you sir !

I've attached my DxDiag and my logs.

Perhaps so, but in the meantime I think your temps are too high even for those other games - 80c is where problems start IME.

Have you capped frame rate in the game's settings?

I'm going to stop people guesssing what's the problem right now... It's the UNITY Engine.

Since it's been reported many times, mostly developers and amateur game developers since 2013, the Unity engine run the GPU over 90% use reguardless of graphic complexity. Now fast forward to today and with new GPUs it's still the same. UNITY developers said they have addressed the problem but after a new UNITY update 2019.x it's back again, and with older UNITY build games will always have it unless the developers go back and update the engine.

My Grim Dawn, 7 days to die, Surviving the aftermath, Wastelnd 2 and 3 GPU use is 95% BTW I upgraded to a new PC with advanced aircooling... same results.

The only way to fix a bit of this issue were that some indie developers found is what you use to compile the code to lower the GPU use, but sadly that not my expertise on why this is a thing, maybe because a compiler would use different CPU/GPU based code and not dump every process to the GPU ??? I dunno.

I hope the DEVELOPERS of Surviving the Aftermath could try something of that nature ?

Not everyone can afford UBER Liquid or Radiator cooling.
