must replace my 8800 GTX, and to be quite honest i'm not looking for top of the line replacement, that's going to wait until i build a new rig. it's not a short drive to the gpu selling places around here so i'd like to know what i should be looking for and not have to waste my time.

is anything that is pci-e 2 with 1gig video memory good enough? or are there some brands that just won't work? according to this website that lists GPUs a lot of newer models don't even meet the min requirements, or at least the card has to be mid range and above

My GTS250 runs EU4 without any problems ( and any other latest game I have tried ) and you can probably get it really cheap

You can get GeForce GTS 250 (512 MB) for 55$ or the 1G version for around 100$

It would be a lot easier if you could mention the rest of your hardware - and a price budget.

Wouldn't want to pick a card that is over your wallet or too demanding for your power supply. (Google DXDIAG, follow the guide and attach the .txt file here if you are unsure what your hardware is)

EU4 is not a demanding game GPU-wise, the entry-level ones from the list I posted above should do. My GPU is similar in power and it runs the game at max FPS.

Add 30% to the US price to get the approximate EU price.

I've got a GT420M and by comparison the 8800GTX is a better card. I can run EUIV fine

I recently bought the Radeon HD 7700, it's on the list linked above too, pretty neat and doesn't need a powerful PU. Saves $$$ when you have to pay the electricity bill. And EUIV doesn't need a powerful GPU I guess, CPU is more important.

I currently use a 460 gtx. I find it suits most of my needs. I plan on building a better pc come christmas though as I need to make a wholesale upgrade. (mobo+cpu+ram) and figured i'd upgrade gpu while I'm at it, but for now my 460 suffices. its more than enough for PI games + medium-high on most other games I play. should be cheap now too.

MSI HD 7770 1GB (Best Performance)

Gigabyte HD 7750 2GB (Middle)

HIS HD 7750 2GB (Cheapest)

My friends use the HD 7750 and 7770. They're great little cards for the price.

The HD 7770 will give you better framerates at sub 1080p resolutions but the other cards can cope better with higher resolutions (Not saying max graphics, not by a long shot.) producing more "playable" framerates. Personally I'd buy the HD 7770 but it's your money.

All of these will run EUIV perfectly, by the way.

Edit; I assume you mean USD implying you live in the US. If not then you'd need to find a different site to buy off.
