Has there been any discussion of changing the governing ethics while in game? I know of a few events that let you switch to the opposite ethics, but nothing that outright changes the ethics.
It's nebulous, but we know that somehow Traditions can be used to shift your empire's Ethos. It wouldn't be a stretch to assume it has something to do with Factions, because Traditions give your POPs a push towards the associated Ethic and the way POPs form Factions and what Factions do is being overhauled. Is it something that Wiz has been tweeting about with the factions?
From what we've been told, it isn't a switch you can flip and have a different set of core Ethos. It's a process- something about how "Traditions will give your populace a big push towards the associated Ethic, which can be used to reinforce your desired set or to prepare your empire for a switch".I have mixed feelings over this sort of change, as it is you can change your government fairly easily and create for yourself a game-y way to have a good early game and a dangerous late game. If you're able to change your empire ethics, you could cause some serious mechanic exploits.... but from an RP perspective, I can see the value. Maybe force the player to do it in increments? 1 shift per 10 years, shift being fanatic individualist > individualist > nothing > colectivist taking 30 years... or as another example:
Fanatic Spiritualist/Militarist > Spiritualist/Militarist > Spiritualistic/Militaristic/Xenophile > Spiritualist/Xenophile > Spiritualist/Fanatic Xenophile.
