Is this mechanic supposed to be the "limit the expansion of big empires" feature, because it's boring if you are an Asian empire since you can't get the tech that gives you extra GC.

Overall, it's not a fun mechanic. It doesn't "limit your expansion" since the only thing it does to you is not make states, just leave them at territories. So it limits the income you get but that doesn't limit your expansion. It's an useless mechanic that only annoys the player.

It's a damn sight better than the State Limit we had, which did the same thing. The difference with GC is that it synergizes better with making a decision with what to State, what to make a TC and what to leave as a Territory.

And that's different from state limit.... how? You can actually expand more this way if you want because you can just leave everything as territories and now you don't hit the more territories than state limit corruption thing, or you can get more states but just not be quite as big overall. It adds more choice and strategy and nuance, rather than just stating all your highest dev areas automatically.

As someone who used to play a lot in low developed land, I love it. Finally you can actually state a decent amount on land. The state limit before was horrendous for anyone playing as a Horde or in East or West-Africa.

Of course its better but it doesn't do anything, it's just annoying. What is it supposed to do anyway? What is it's purpose then ?

It does.
Wouldn’t your expansion be faster if you had that money and force limit?
I am playing as the Mughals, I already have 500k force limit, I don't need states. It doesn't limit my expansion. If the province is THAT rich then I would make it a state since it would cancel the negative.

Well yes, if you're playing as Mughals the only things that would limit you are bankruptcy or regency as those prevent declaring wars. Mughals also can get what, like 3,000 governing capacity if you take admin ideas and take the government reforms that give more capacity? So it's not really a representative example of what it's like for most tags.

For example if you're stuck as a duchy in the HRE, before taking Admin ideas or getting through some tech, you're stuck with 200 capacity. You hit that limit pretty quickly.

It doesn't tho! You can still conquer land but just not turn them into states, it limits your income and your max force limit but it doesn't limit your expansion!
So your complaint is that it is annoying but does nothing. If it does nothing, then why do you care? If you are so powerful that money and forcelimit mean nothing anymore, then why do you care if you have slightly less of either? I fail to see why you are so worked up.

Assuming you are already monster blob number one and mopping up the world, what it does is if you go significantly over:
It increases your coring cost to stupid amounts.
It prevents you from using vassalls as the -improve relations will make them impossible to annex.
Coalitions are also still a thing and annoying.

What it does not do is making the next conquest any more difficult. There is no difference in fighting a war when you are 1000% over or if you are a OPM. It olny takes effect after the peace deal.

I at least would like to see a mechanic that makes the conquest part harder and not the peace time. Because there is not much to do in peace time and more rebels are not fun. Either trigger larger wars, where you can also take larger chunks of land (though admin points and overextension are the bottleneck for conquest, not manpower, not forcelimit) or let the AI admit that it has lost and invent some end game war mechanic.

If you’re that rich and powerful, why don’t you just build the buildings that reduce governing cost? Territories and trade company land can be reduced to just 1GC each.

First of all, if you can't get tech as an "Asian empire" you are playing poorly. You buy institutions or make sure they have a good chance to spawn in Asia.

Second, almost all of Asia outside of your sub-continent can be made into TCs now. Income is not an issue. I am playing Oirat and had easy positive income with no loans in 1520.
