got DLC steam key when I do not have the game on steam (crusader kings II)

I bought Crusader Kings II few years ago via MagGameStore app. Downloaded and played, and updated, etc... all too fun.

Now I bought via the website the Ruler Designer DLC. And I got a steam key. Why? I do not have it active neither I have a key to active it on steam and I found it very unnecessary. I already have it on my mac.

That is any solution to this? Or I really just threw my money on the a bin from which I cannot retrieve?

There is only a Steam version of CK2 as of November 2013

Yours must be the GamersGate version, which is now deprecated as of that date. In your GamersGate online account you will have been given Steam keys to replace the base game and what DLCs you had at the time.

Wherever you got your original copy of the game should have supplied a steam version

Not true; the game wasn't steam only when it came out. If he got the Gamersgame version which seems likely he didn't get a steam key until the Gamersgate version was phased out and the game made steam only.

I was under the impression that they supplied a steam key when it was phased out however
