Lets state the obvious facts: since France is off the rival table, France will get some really big players supportings its independence: Burgundy, Castile and the like. Even if you manage to declare a war on a HRE minor (which pits you against Austria and it's allies - Provance is *NOT* in the HRE), there are no guarantees France will get sieged down before you get sieged down. All Provance provinces except Poitou are rather easy to reach too.
As I previously stated, Having France as a PU junior is complicated as Castile, let alone Provance. Not saying it's undoable, but hardly worth the effort. I'd rather have the same nations France would get to support their independence as allies.
I guess you totally misunderstood my advice. Not a biggy, I will try again.
1) OP mentioned he is part of HRE so no trouble with Emperor.
2) I clearly said you start a war and
siege down the enemy, not the other way around. Instead of getting your reward of having the enemy under your thumb you have the option to give away anything you want within 100% war score.
3) Of course you need to "downgrade" France within the independence truce timer to avoid a direct war with France. Assume there is one.
I understand you might be confused a bit on point 2, its the opposite of what you expect. Still, this works and is great, cheap and effective.
