Initially I tried to do this with Navarra but it got ruined when GB bugged out (they stopped moving their armies) and I won a war against them before I realised and reloaded. I felt like I cheated so abandoned it.

Now I've tried both Malacca and Korea but I dominated East Asia too easily both times for it to be a fun Vicky 2 game.

Ideally I want a country where playing my best on v.hard I will still not be conclusively the #1 power by the end game so that I can have fun in Vicky 2.

Im afraid that even decent player will be able to make any country world power before 1821. Maybe try some OPM's (Corfu,Naxos,Albania at 1450) and add buffs for AI via modding?

Also use house rules

You'll have to show self-restraint or you'll be able to dominate way too much , whatever country you can choose.

I think House Rules are good but I'm also quite bad at sticking to them unless they are forced on me. I was thinking maybe Holland --> Netherlands with only being able to take provinces I have a valid claim to and no vassalising outside of my culture group? Also no PUs.

Also only demanding the release of other netherlands/belgian nations to stop me balkanizing the blobs.

Thinking about this more I really like it. Haven't played Holland in a while so think I'm going to polish my rules and do this. :)

EDIT: Ok so my rules are,

1. No taking provinces without a valid claim (core, same culture, other reasons I deem valid).
2. Only vassalising countries I have a valid claim on e.g. Utrecht yes, Hansa no.
3. Switch to a republic at the first opportunity and never change to a monarchy again (mostly to stop temptation from PUs and HRE).
4. Once I gain a CoT, aim for full mercantalism and only trade in my CoTs, free to do as I please beforehand but must not purposely avoid gaining a CoT.
5. No colonising.
6. May not demand release of other nations unless they are provinces I feel I have a claim to OR they are crazy provinces I don't feel they should own. e.g. France owning Finland but nothing in between.
7. May demand release of vassals if they are not in the same culture group but otherwise not.

The last 2 are mostly to stop me removing France as a threat in one war, I may break those rules if I feel one country is becoming too powerful to the extent that the other AI can't compete. I am unsure on lucky nations but overall I dislike the mechanic so may turn it off.

Haha, sounds fun but I don't like reducing my power. I will post my results when I'm done!

Yes! I think controlling the entire Baltic could be fun start to Vic2!

You could try playing as a small trading nation such as the Netherlands or Venice instead of trying to grow big. You'll be dominant trade-wise but you won't have the power that lots of territory/population in V2 gives you.

I managed up to around 1500 but then Burgundy dowed me forcing me to lose my vassals (Friesland + OPM Flanders) and then I managed to get them back diplomatically before Burgundy excommed me and then dowed me after my ruler had changed but before the month was up so they still had the CB :(.

They took Utrecht and Zeeland so I quit as it seemed too hard after that. Will try again tomorrow though!

EDIT: Oh and thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I really want to start in 1399 which rules out some of those and also would much prefer to steer a country through over 500 years of history than switch for the end. The Ottoman one I suspect would be too easy and I would just spend the end of the game waiting for it to finish.

Does the converter (EU3 - Vic2), actually work very well? I might consider this sometime if it does.

I would suggest Ryukyu, if you want a real challenge. It is possible to have decent success with them by game's end if you survive, or so I've heard...

I am having a really great game as England
I have conquered the British Isles,France,Iberia,Egypt and some parts of south india.I have colonized east canada and have 1 colony in austrialia. It is 1690 right now and should make a pretty awesome game for vic2
