This will only happen when there are more areas with high speed connections without download limits. Where I live in the UK there is only one option of ISP and only people living in the only City in the area can get anything above 1Mbps, even then they are lucky to get 3Mbps. Trying to download games that are getting to 10+gigs in size is not easy, and can end up very expensive if you go over your download limit.

You have... download limits?

You could make the ultimate sacrifice and donate blood for money (at least in the US they pay for it)

Just kidding....
Its OT but not in all states (if any). In Arizona it is illegal to pay for blood (or any other body part like an organ or plasma) that is going to be used by a human. You can be compensated for your time for fluids (i.e., plasma) that is going to be used for research but not going directly to a human being.

PS: I have donated blood regularly every 8-10 weeks since I was 18 until my recent medical problems made me ineligible to donate because of all the medications I am on.

What does this mean? Gone Gold, what the difference?
I though a game only goes gold when it has expansions and stuff.

Gone "gold" means that the software company has decided the version of the game is suitable for sale i.e. most bugs have been removed and the software is ready for the consumer. Once gold the game goes to the duplicating company to start work on producing the boxs, manuals and cd/dvds for sale to public.

look at here for futher info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Going_gold

I managed to get unlimited after some haggling, still my download speed goes from 800kbs to 100kbs sometimes.

Fortunately 8am isn't peak time so I should get a good speed on my side.

eeek how can it even be possible to legally sell something that does that

im glad i only have to live with my 20mb line only reaching 16mb because im more than 2km away from a distribution station or whatever its called.

oh bugger that i cant get a retail then i guess i better get it from GG instead ... gonna think about if i also have to get a retail when they come the 14th, 7 days is more than i can wait :D

Every ISP uses the line "Upto 8mb ect", They get away with it off that line alone.

I can't wait the 7 days, I go back to college in late August and want as much time as possible:D.

That would be an upper end connection in germany, too.

We may have up to 100Mbit, but only in small reagons. the total majority has 6Mbit or worse. Some ppl even have no broadband at all.

The infrastructure is far far from optimal for downloading Multigigabyte of Data for Games.

And since when can you actually burn the game from a downloadversion? Ok, i only own one downloaded game (and it will definitely stay with this one!) but there i actually got only some files on my harddisc, and no image or executable for a convinient reinstall later on. (Due to some braindamaged programmers modern games can be installed on say Partitition D, but still saving critial data on you systempartition, say C )

And to the former statement Downloading would be faster than grabbing a DVD: no way! Last time i had to reinstall my downloaded game i needed more than half an hour to even start the download (at first i had to remember WHERE i actually got the game since i forgot the name of the shop. Found it then through my mails, then i had to recover my Password. so far i never used a password to gain access to my CD/DVD...), which then took ages (and i have a 20mbit connection!).

And if the shop goes down, you game goes down, too. Especially in these days this is something you a ctually should consider. If i own the Disc i have if for ages (And now, even my first games on CD Rom, like Rebel Assault still function like on the first day. I have no idea how some people abuse their media... and i think i don´t even wanna know :p)

Even if i have to admit that downloads are the future it has to get FAR FAR cheaper than hardcopys. If i get less i pay less, plain and simple. And to simply get the game one or two days earlyer, well that simply doesn´t outweight the Contras of downloads.

Now, do i get a coockie for Thread Highjacking?

I notice that my preorder with NewEgg states a release of August 5th. With the free 3 day UPS shipping that would mean a possible Friday arrival at my home - depending on if it gets shipped from the usual Los Angeles spot. Living 30 minutes away from the main UPS hub in SoCal I'm pretty sure I'll get the game Friday but certainly I'll get it on Monday. If I have to read the forums over the weekend, that's ok. :D

Here in the US Comcast has bandwidth limits of 250 gig a month. Time Warner is attempting to put in a limit of 50 gig but so far their efforts have been blocked. Sadly the US still lags behind quite a bit of the civilized world when it comes to bandwidth - I'm fortunate that I have 15megs but I know I could get up to 30 if FIOS was available in my area.
