im glad i only have to live with my 20mb line only reaching 16mb because im more than 2km away from a distribution station or whatever its called.
That would be an upper end connection in germany, too.
We may have up to 100Mbit, but only in small reagons. the total majority has 6Mbit or worse. Some ppl even have no broadband at all.
The infrastructure is far far from optimal for downloading Multigigabyte of Data for Games.
And since when can you actually burn the game from a downloadversion? Ok, i only own one downloaded game (and it will definitely stay with this one!) but there i actually got only some files on my harddisc, and no image or executable for a convinient reinstall later on. (Due to some braindamaged programmers modern games can be installed on say Partitition D, but still saving critial data on you systempartition, say C :wacko
And to the former statement Downloading would be faster than grabbing a DVD: no way! Last time i had to reinstall my downloaded game i needed more than half an hour to even start the download (at first i had to remember WHERE i actually got the game since i forgot the name of the shop. Found it then through my mails, then i had to recover my Password. so far i never used a password to gain access to my CD/DVD...), which then took ages (and i have a 20mbit connection!).
And if the shop goes down, you game goes down, too. Especially in these days this is something you a ctually should consider. If i own the Disc i have if for ages (And now, even my first games on CD Rom, like Rebel Assault still function like on the first day. I have no idea how some people abuse their media... and i think i don´t even wanna know

)
Even if i have to admit that downloads are the future it has to get FAR FAR cheaper than hardcopys. If i get less i pay less, plain and simple. And to simply get the game one or two days earlyer, well that simply doesn´t outweight the Contras of downloads.
Now, do i get a coockie for Thread Highjacking?
