The Reckep : Part 10
Once again the discussion on how to spend the years money had ended in Boke holding his breath until he'd turned blue. But after watching how Berke's grin got wider as he got bluer he thought wiser of the tactic and decided perhaps a compromise was in order. Not all of the money was spent on the army. In fact Berke advised that if the army were to grow much wider the Horde would have to import lots of extra grain at considerable cost just to feed the men. After all nobody wanted a repeat of the Karakorum Kannibal Karnage no matter how pleasing the alliteration sounded
(Out of respect for this AARs readers the finer details of this messy episode were omitted at the time of occurrence but its safe to say it involved rebels and an army hungry for revenge). A considerable portion of the money was spent sending gifts to Shirvan and Sibir who were part of Berke's long term plans for the nation. He also invested some of the money in launching six new corners shops under his franchise, Berker Khan, in the foreign cities of Istanbul, Tago, Alexandria and Samarkand.
The army having finished cleaning their shoes settled in for what they were promised would be a real action spectacular, the siege of Moldova. It wasn't. Within two months the bored men eager for entertainment attacked the city walls and surprisingly succeeded in capturing the city.
Upon finding that there wasn't really anything interesting to do in the city either they trotted on off into Austria in search of adventure.
Its not a Golden Horde adventure without raping and pillaging
On the broader scale Berke was pleased to find that the war was looking quite even now between the two alliances.
The contents of the 'Berke Report' on the war so far
The successful taking of Moldova by assault had come as quite a surprise. But this war kept being full of surprises. A quick glance north revealed that rebels were actually doing some good in trying to kick out the Austrians.
Rebels doing good? The first messenger to report this to Boke was beheaded for lying
October revealed a nasty political mess. A top official in the Horde's economics department had bribed his way to a complete monopoly on certain goods within the Horde. Unfortunately he was spared the usual fate when it was found he had monopolised the axe market pushing prices of this important diplomatic and legal instrument through the roof. Rather than fork out cash for such an item at the time Boke had the man deported to the lands of the Uzbek. Such a solution though didn't solve the axe problem and inflation throughout the entire land increased.
Stupidly going where no Turk has gone before
The Turks apparently unable to count march to defend their land against impossible odds. They didn't win.
Moldova fell again to the enemy in February 1567. The progress of the Horde's siege in Morea was a lot slower. By June it still rested in Venetian hands.
At last in September the walls crumbled. Unfortunately in the same month Austria took the province of Galizien in an overwhelming assault.
The Horde army celebrates the victory in Morea
The war over the last two years had reached a virtual stalemate. The only notable difference being that Morea was now controlled by the Horde. Moldova and Galizien were essentially the same except not Venice controlled Moldova and Austria controlled Galizien.
