Sa'adat's Reign : Part 4
With the threat of the Ottoman's looming large on their horizon Hungary caved. They gave into Suleyman's demands, Hungary was vassalised. But the war with Austria would go on. Things did not look good for Austria. Not only did she face the combined might of the Holy Golden Alliance but other neighbours too looked greedily at her.
Austria at war with half of Europe
Already her borders were breached by enemies
So it was that the two alliances faced off against each other.
The opposing sides
Sa'adat ordered his 20,000 strong Western Army to begin the invasion. But he had a problem. Just as the army was about to leave it was brought to his attention that there was no way they could reach Austria. Needless to say Sa'adat was furious. How could this be? His plans were so well laid, the war looked so good.
When at last the rage had cooled an emergency meeting was called of the Horde's top generals. Was there anyway to get to Austria? It emerged that there was not. The only routes to Austria were through Polish or Hungarian territory. There was no possiblity of the Polish allowing the Horde into their lands. Hungary was a trickier problem. As a vassal of the Ottomans they granted access to the Ottoman's begrudgingly. The chances of them accepting more enemy troops into their lands were slim to none.
And so it was that Sa'adat was forced to admit that the Horde and Crimea could play no part in this war. To console himself he made peace with the Mamluks on behalf of Crimea. Crimea received the province of Syria which it had controlled for some time now. He then set about making peace with Ak Koyunlu who were completely occupied. For peace Kurdistan went to the Ottomans and 125 ducats was distributed between the allies.
Still brooding over the unfortunate war against Austria Sa'adat turned to Allah. He sent a new missionary to Abkhazia in 1527.
He also tried to end the war between the Mamluks and the Horde but negiotiations were a stalemate neither side would accept the peace terms.
Not so when the Ottomans tried to make peace. They were able to make the Mamluks accept a harsh peace deal.
The Ottomans do well out of the war
Ottoman Posessions now, they are looking strong
Sa'adat expected Suleyman to turn his attention on Austria now but he was mistaken. The Ottomans showed little interest in heading for central Europe. The only act of the war was to defeat the Knights of St. John and lay siege to them.
Sa'adat sent a letter to Suleyman asking about the reasons. Suleyman explained that there had been several uprising throughout his growing empire and his army was required to maintain order for now. At the same time he said with Hungary vassalised already there was little to fight for until Austria challenged them, an unlikely event.
In December several nobles demanded that they gain increased rights within the Horde. It was not fair they claimed that the Horde be ruled from Crimea, more authority should be given to those of Horde birth. Faced with a possiblity of wisespread revolts Sa'adat was forced to make some concessions. Once again he sort consolation with Allah, trying to appease him by sending missionaries to convert to pagans of Sadrinsk.
1528 was a routine year. Only one blemish marked the year. A revolt arose in Poltava. As before the motivation was anti-Crimean sentiment. This continued cause of discontent worried Sa'adat. It seemed no matter what his spies did or his armies crushed the problem kept rearing it's ugly head.
In 1529 though Sa'adat was to find the problem was less like a rat and more like a hydra. The revolts he had faced before would look like minor irritations compared to the full scale uprising that began across the south west of the nation.
Mass revolts just like in days gone by
